Well well well what do we have here….a ticket to one of my favourite visits to Winnipeg with some VERY fun folks. To say this weekend was a sh!t show doesn’t do it justice. I loved touring as a dj back then but Winnipeg was always my favourite! Who’s got the flyer?

50 years ago, their love story began with a chance meeting in 1973. 💕
From a little starter home that became their forever home,
to raising a son and daughter, gaining in-laws, a grandchild, and countless memories—
their journey has been built on love. ✨

They thought it was just a quiet dinner with their son and his wife… greeted at the door by their grandchild. But waiting around the corner was the sweetest surprise—a room full of family and friends ready to celebrate their golden anniversary. 💛

So we had a great time with Krista. She stayed with us for 7 days and then 2 days in Metchosin with Kym Hill. We visited with Ingrid lots, had dinner with Ryan and Mel, and had lunch with Paul Rudolph, we did the
Malahat Skywalk, a bike ride with ocean picnic, lots of walks in our hood, the Butchart Gardens, and a concert with Cara Luft. 🥰 Then I stepped on the edge of a sidewalk and landed on the side of my foot and broke the 5th metatarsal 😭

Had a great visit from some ole Winnipeg friends amd fellow islanders Ryan @wizard204 and Mel 😎🙂. We fired up the smoker, and Ryan graced us with not only veggies and herbs from their garden, but with a couple of iconic BC wines from 2008!! Mission Hills Oculus amd Dirty Laundrys Bordello. They very much still have some life left, especially the Oculus!! Interesting to compare the 2 wines from the same vintage The Oculus was percise, focused and layered, where the Dirty Laundry was a little more wild and funky, but both exhibited the classic aged wine characteristics of leather , dried cherry/fig, graphite(especially the oculus) with lengthy finishes and sublime with smoked meat. The Oculus had this soy sauce thing going on that made the pairing oh so great!!
What a treat! Great to see you and thanks for sharing!! #islandfriends #winnipegexpats #smokedmeat #Bcwine #localfood #fromthegarden #2008 #12yearsinbottle #goodtimes #covidbubble #famjam #comeanytimewiththosewines #winebuds

An awesome hike to our first peak since living on Vancouver Island this past weekend. We hiked up through the ice to the summit of Mount Cokely via the north ridge at 1619m. Such a beautiful place with awesome views in every direction.
.
1) Looking south east toward #vancouver at the extreme right. Could see reflections of the sun off glass on boats in the harbour at times. Like stars twinkle at night.
.
2) I love the trees that grow on the tops of mountains (or in the alpine to define it more clearly). Such character and resilience to grow in such an inhospitable place.
.
3) Mount Arrowsmith @ 1819m is an objective for next summer, or maybe this winter ski touring. It is the highest peak on southern Vancouver Island. Seeing Hidden Lake makes me thing a hot summer day might be best for a cool dip in the lake as a reward for bagging the peak!
.
4) The alpine terrain on Cokely that reminds me of the Canadian Shield in NW Ontario. Only on a much larger scale.
.
5) Good people to share great memories with. Hiked in memory of those that gave their lives for our freedom to enjoy this country.
