Every photograph has two birthdays. The day you take it and the day you finally let someone else see it.

I'm not very good at the latter, for the simple reason that I enjoy taking photos FAR more than I enjoy the process of getting them out there. But I digress!

Earlier this year, before 2026 decided to speedrun to December, four of my photographs made it to Temper Floating Gallery's very first exhibition in Amsterdam. Their very first! It was an all-female group show featuring seven photographers. My contribution consisted of four analogue vignettes: two from Hong Kong, two from Amsterdam. (Can you tell one city from the other?)

Instagram is wonderful in all sorts of ways. But (heavy on the but) it insists every still image squeeze itself into a scrollable rectangle; something your thumb meets for exactly half a second while you're waiting for your bus to arrive.

I love it when an image stops belonging only to me, but I love it even more when it ends up in a place that invites people to spend time with it. Galleries do that. Museums (manifesting) do that. Homes do it best of all. I hope that many photographs of mine become part of the furniture of other people's lives.

I don't think seeing my work leave the confines of the internet and exist at human scale will ever get old.

A huge thank you to Temper for inviting my work into your very first exhibition. Shoutout to Sebastian Rypson of WM Gallery (where the prints had lived previously) for framing them again and better than I ever could, and to my mum for safely shepherding them to their next temporary home while I’m on the other side of the world.

P.S. Temper is organising another exhibition later this month. If you're in Amsterdam, go! Support people making new things happen. Independent art events like this deserve to be full of curious people.

P.P.S. To the people who somehow still follow me for my photography despite my non-existent posting schedule: I'll throw more second birthday-parties. Promise.
