Building up the Open Studio, complementing the upcoming show “Where Desire Lands” by John Blogg.

Visitors will be able to have a mini foot photoshoot at the back of the gallery, where Blogg turns feet into little pieces of art.

The artist will be present in the Open Studio on the following dates:
• Friday 25.09 — during the opening
• Friday 02.10
• Saturday 03.10
• Wednesday 07.10
• Thursday 08.10

Artworks can be picked up during the finissage on Saturday 10.10.

Inna about 1 hour, from 6 to 8 pm this evening, John Blogg's "Where Desire Lands" kicks off at Gallery WM! A body of work spanning forty-some years, centred on the female foot, the exhibition explores how sustained and intense attention on a single subject can shape perception, revealing unexpected forms of beauty in what otherwise might pass unnoticed..

WHERE DESIRE LANDS — JOHN BLOGG

We are delighted to announce the opening of Where Desire Lands, an upcoming exhibition by John Blogg, opening Friday, 25 September @wmgallery

The exhibition brings together a collection of photographs centred on an unexpected part of the body: the feet.

Not simply as anatomical subjects, but as a meeting point between the body and the world. They support us, carry us forward, and bear traces of how we move through life.

Through Blogg’s gaze, they become charged with intimacy and desire. Where Desire Lands hereby refers to the place where the body meets the ground, but also to the intimate and unexpected places where desire itself comes to rest.

During the opening, and on selected dates throughout the exhibition, Blogg will be present at the gallery to share insights into his photographic practice. He will also be shooting live as part of an Open Studio that will be created within the gallery, inviting feet to become the subjects of new photographs.

More details about the Open Studio and how to participate will follow soon.

Jazz & Andere Curiosa extended!

Following the enthusiastic response to Jazz & Other Curiosa – Nico van der Stam: 101, we have decided to extend the exhibition. Rather than closing on 11 July, it will now remain on view until Saturday, 12 September 2026.
.
Additionally, Gallery WM is happy to welcome @annabelvanb as a member of the Gallery WM family.. Doubtlessly, you will have the opportunity to talk to her about art, the creative industry, art management and all the multiferous exhibitions we have lined up for the coming time!

FINISSAGE — NICO VAN DER STAM 101
Saturday 12 September, 4–6 pm
After a wonderfully well-attended exhibition, the time has come to say goodbye to Jazz & Other Curiosa – Nico van der Stam: 101.
Over the past few months, we have been surrounded by the vivid world Nico captured in his photographs: Amsterdam’s jazz and emerging pop scenes, fashion, the Jordaan, Dutch celebrities and international greats. But just as compelling are his more intimate, under-the-radar images — photographs of people outside the spotlight, towards whom Nico seems to have harboured a quiet and decidedly low-key sympathy.
Many of the original press prints were made in haste; some are damaged, others carry stamps, editorial markings and the traces of their working lives. Yet they retain the atmosphere, emotion and vitality of their time. As Nico himself put it: “A blurred photograph can be a good photograph, as long as it conveys a feeling.”
For Gallery WM, this exhibition has also been a very personal one. Nico was not only an iconic Dutch photographer, but above all a personal friend of Paul Schäublin and of the gallery.
Our particular thanks go to Hannie van Ooijen-van der Stam, Nico’s widow, for giving us the opportunity to share this remarkable collection and to spend these months surrounded by the photographs of an extraordinary life and body of work.
On Saturday 12 September, we will raise a glass to Nico — and to this very special exhibition.
Come and have one last look, a final chat, and say goodbye with us.

Hannie van Ooijen blikt terug op haar leven met fotograaf Nico van der Stam.

Als weduwe van Nico neemt Hannie ons mee achter de schermen van de tentoonstelling Jazz & Andere Curiosa – Nico van der Stam: 101, die momenteel te zien is bij Gallery WM in Amsterdam.

Hannie ontmoette Nico in het Jordaanse Café Van der Laan aan de Amstel. Niet veel later stonden ze samen in de donkere kamer om zijn foto’s te ontwikkelen. Na twaalfënhalf jaar samenwonen trouwden ze. Dit jaar zou Nico 101 zijn geworden.
Met twee camera’s om zijn nek, één voor kleur en één voor zwart-wit, legde Nico vast wat hem opviel. Niet alleen de grote namen op het podium, maar ook het nachtleven, de Jordaan, mode, straatbeelden en de mensen die hij onderweg ontmoette.

In ons gesprek neemt Hannie ons mee door een selectie originele afdrukken die tijdens de voorbereidingen op haar verhuizing opnieuw tevoorschijn kwam. De foto’s dragen de sporen van hun geschiedenis en herinneren aan een tijd waarin beelden met veel aandacht werden ontwikkeld en naar redacties werden gebracht.

De tentoonstelling brengt werk uit de jaren vijftig tot en met zeventig samen: van de bruisende Amsterdamse jazzscene en de opkomende popcultuur tot intieme portretten en momenten op straat. Onder anderen Miles Davis, Chuck Berry en Jimi Hendrix verschenen voor Nico’s lens, maar zijn oeuvre vertelt een veel breder verhaal over het naoorlogse Nederland.
