Paris, about 1967. From left to right WMK’s one and only bride, seated is a close family friend, then 17, who came to Paris with the Kelley’s for a year. She’s like a big sister/daughter/auntie/friend. WMK is holding his eldest daughter, and The Paris Baby wasn’t here yet. 📸 Eddie Barnett

They met in the spring of 1962, and despite money, class difference and sometimes physical distance, they married on December 15th 1962. He called her his “one and only bride” and if ever two people stayed married “for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part...” it was those two, “Billy” and “Karen” who became Papa and Mama, Poppy and Nana... Aiki and Duke. 57 years ago today. In later years, when asked how they managed to stay together they would answer “He was too lazy to leave, and she was too stubborn to quit.” But they were best friends through it all.... and love and respect for each other was always the very solid foundation.
