We're live! The redesigned home of all things WMK is designed by our friend and comrade in the arts Rebecca Cariño of Cariño Studio. We have a lot of things to add as time goes on; visual work, photography, little things he wrote, WMK 's notes on writing (the man saved EVERYTHING). And we hope to add at least SOME of the many many photographs we have of his life, or that he took. We've also attempted to scour the internet for any articles or academic papers about him, so if you know of any feel free to contact us so we can add them! Cariño Studio did a FANTASTIC job of designing a site that captured the essence of WMK. Towards the end of his life he only wore four colors; red, yellow, blue and purple, and he liked simple, clean lines and that is so beautifully implemented here. His favorite color was yellow, so that's the first color you see. The logo you see on the site, "Kelley's" was either made FOR or made BY William Melvin Kelley Sr, and was used on the very short-lived literary magazine WMK Sr. tried to start in the mid-1930's. So, the link is in the bio. Please explore, and enjoy! #websitedesign #websitelaunch #williammelvinkelley #adifferentdrummer #disintegrationnovel #explore #explorepage by @wmkelley

A little page one preview... Posted @withregram • @ireadvintage 📕 From page one of DIS//INTEGRATION, the latest from William Melvin Kelley, “[A] lost giant of American literature.” —The New Yorker The linked “2 novelas, 3 stories, and a little play” that make up DIS//INTEGRATION follow the life journeys of Charles “Chig” Dunford from his Nanny Eva sermonizing from her front porch, when he is only seventeen, to his peripatetic studies in Reupeo (an anagram of Europe) as a college student, to his unsettled bachelorhood as an English professor at a small Vermont college, where he continues to struggle to finish his life-long study of the Reupeonese author Dupukshamin and find true love. #WilliamMelvinKelley #DisIntegration #ADifferentDrummer #Excerpt by @wmkelley

Help us tell our own stories! On December 15, we will be launching a campaign on Kickstarter to help us fund the first few episodes of DANCERS ON THE SHORE--The Audio Drama. Each episode, based on one of WMK's short stories, will be fully scripted and acted, with music and ambient effects.... just like those old fashioned radio dramas our elders (including WMK!!) were so fond of. We have an exciting team ready to run with this community-led project--and we just need a little help getting started. We hope you'll join us on this exciting venture! A link will be in the bio shortly and more details are on the way. Stay tuned! #williammelvinkelley #dancersontheahore #audiodrama #scripteddrama #tellourownstoriea by @wmkelley

We love when people find "A Different Drummer!" Posted @withregram • @bernicelmcfadden Here is the book I was looking for in my previous post. Thanks so much to @iamchristineplatt and @litrarydiversty for coming to my rescue!!! About the book: The stunning, thought-provoking first novel by a "lost giant of American literature" (The New Yorker) June, 1957. One hot afternoon in the backwaters of the Deep South, a young black farmer named Tucker Caliban salts his fields, shoots his horse, burns his house, and heads north with his wife and child. His departure sets off an exodus of the state’s entire black population, throwing the established order into brilliant disarray. Told from the points of view of the white residents who remained, A Different Drummer stands, decades after its first publication in 1962, as an extraordinary and prescient triumph of satire and spirit. by @wmkelley

We wish WMK were here to see this. He called it in 1965. Posted @withregram • @theshaderoom TSR Staff China! @China_lovelace ___________________________________ #PressPlay: Three daughters of #MalcolmX have accused the CIA, FBI, the New York Police Department, and others of their alleged roles in the 1965 assassination of their father in a $100 million lawsuit. ___________________________________ According to @cnn the suit filed in Manhattan federal court, the daughters — along with the Malcolm X estate — claimed that the agencies were aware of and were involved in the assassination plot and failed to stop the killing. If you recall, three men were initially convicted for the killing, and two were exonerated in 2021. That same year, a letter written by a former NYPD officer Raymond Wood alleged the NYPD and FBI covered up details of the assassination. During a press conference attorney #BenCrump stood with family members as he described the lawsuit. ___________________________________ Crump said he hoped federal and city officials would read it “and learn all the dastardly deeds that were done by their predecessors and try to right these historic wrongs.” In the lawsuit, the family said the prosecution team suppressed the government’s role in the assassination. Malcolm X’s widow, Betty Shabazz, the plaintiffs, “and their entire family have suffered the pain of the unknown” for decades, the lawsuit states. Happy Birthday to the Greatest of All Time. Someone asked us recently "how'd he do it? Hold on to his integrity and his art and his family?" And we said, because he gave up everything else. But by holding on this art, and his family, it gave him real things to write about. So in his honor, for his birthday, will you read (or better yet! Listen!) to Dis//Integration? And tell us what you think. Happy happy birthday, WMK. Your physical presence is missed but boy is your presence felt. #williammelvinkelley #disintegrationnovel taken in Bronx, NY by @wmkelley
