Who remembers this banger show
Total Drama Island was one of the most memorable animated shows of the late 2000s because it treated a cartoon like a reality competition series. The show first premiered in Canada on Teletoon in 2007 before later airing on Cartoon Network in the United States. It followed a group of teenage contestants competing in elimination challenges, with the format parodying shows like Survivor.
Part of why the show still gets talked about is because its humor felt a lot sharper than a normal kids’ cartoon.
Characters like Duncan, Heather, Owen, Gwen, and Courtney were written around strong stereotypes, but the show pushed them into chaotic situations that made the cast feel way more memorable. For a Cartoon Network audience at the time, some of the jokes and lines definitely felt wild looking back now.
