West Africa has a skateboarding scene. And one animator just decided to put it on screen. 🛹🇬🇭

Addy stopped by the Animation Pocket at Annecy 2026 to introduce us to Fama Omo, a proof of concept that is doing exactly what a proof of concept should do. Establishing the animation style, setting the tone, and laying the foundation for something much bigger.

Because out of Fama Omo comes Skate Diaries; an animated series built around the skateboarding culture of West Africa. Not just telling the story of the scene, but teaching it. Giving tips. Introducing a whole new audience to skateboarding through the power of animation.

One creator. One vision. One underrepresented subculture that deserves its own animated world.

Think about that for a second.... A Ghanaian animator using the medium to grow a sport. To document a scene that exists right here on our streets. To make skateboarding accessible to kids who might never pick up a board, until they see themselves in a character who does.

That’s not just animation. That’s community building through storytelling. 👊

As Ghanaian and African animation continues to gain recognition on the global stage, this screening offers a rare opportunity to experience the work of some of the creatives carrying that flag and pushing the industry forward, followed by conversations exploring the creative journeys, challenges, and possibilities shaping the future of African animation.

Code Red. Just me contemplating in my own way on this recent event. Call it Creative Analysis.

For me, the reality of this incident that took place yesterday (July 14) is what interests me the most. The man literally escaped death by centimeters; he escaped the grip of the Grim Riper by centimeters y'all. That's one “near” death experience.

Wondering what would be running through his mind should he find out that he was just centimeters away from meeting his maker. While he has a second chance to think about that, unfortunately, someone else didn't get that chance💔. Life can be that fragile in a moment.
