West Africa has a skateboarding scene. And one animator just decided to put it on screen. 🛹🇬🇭
.
Addy stopped by the Animation Pocket at Annecy 2026 to introduce us to Fama Omo, a proof of concept that is doing exactly what a proof of concept should do. Establishing the animation style, setting the tone, and laying the foundation for something much bigger.
.
Because out of Fama Omo comes Skate Diaries; an animated series built around the skateboarding culture of West Africa. Not just telling the story of the scene, but teaching it. Giving tips. Introducing a whole new audience to skateboarding through the power of animation.
.
One creator. One vision. One underrepresented subculture that deserves its own animated world.
.
Think about that for a second.... A Ghanaian animator using the medium to grow a sport. To document a scene that exists right here on our streets. To make skateboarding accessible to kids who might never pick up a board, until they see themselves in a character who does.
.
That’s not just animation. That’s community building through storytelling. 👊
.
You’re watching TAPGH — The Animation Pocket Ghana.
🎙️📍 Annecy 2026
.
.
Five Ghanaian animation professionals are being supported to participate in the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival made possible by the French Embassy Ghana and Creation Africa. The same vision that has been sending Ghanaian animated films to Annecy since 2019, growing stronger every year, is now bringing Ghana’s next wave to the world’s biggest animation market.
