What do a pile of pre-loved clothes and an abandoned public restroom have in common? Myles Smutney sees potential in both.

As the founder of @thefreestoreproject, Myles has spent years turning unwanted items into shared resources and everyday exchanges into opportunities for community connection. Now, she’s imagining a new life for a forgotten Lower East Side building, one that could become a home for local arts, culture, and community.

Our latest Leading Ladies feature, “From Forgotten to Found”, explores Myles’s vision for a New York City where overlooked spaces and resources can bring people together in unexpected ways.

Get to know Myles and the work she’s building. Link in bio to read ☺️

Continuing to be disappointed by the U.S. and how they treat women. We as women deserve better.

When will people start believing that?

What happens when nonprofits have access to the space they need to grow?

In the latest episode of @nextinnonprofits Podcast, The Interchurch Center President & Executive Director, Robert J. Bolton Jr., joins host Steve Boland for a conversation about the role shared spaces can play in advancing nonprofit missions.

Robert talks about TIC’s approach to providing below-market office space and the tangible impact that can have on organizations. He shares the example of @metroworldchild, which was able to expand its footprint while reducing its real estate costs, allowing more resources to stay focused on its mission. The conversation also explores how nonprofit office space has changed since COVID, TIC’s earned-revenue model, and the possibility of fundraising to help expand the Center’s mission in the future.

With more than 70 nonprofits and mission-driven organizations under one roof, TIC offers a unique model for how space, sustainability, and community can come together to support the nonprofit sector. Listen to the latest episode at the link in bio!

🎧WHAT IF YOU DON’T NEED MORE CONFIDENCE… YOU NEED MORE CLARITY?

On this episode of Build Her, Be Her, I sit down with powerhouse Creative Strategist, Director & Producer Ashley Brooke for a conversation about what it really takes to move from ideas to execution.

With 15+ years of experience and a client roster that includes Netflix, BET, Google, Spotify and Meta, Ashley knows what it means to create, pivot, build—and keep going.

And one thing she made clear:

✨ Clarity is currency.

We talked about starting before everything is perfect, building systems around your creativity, asking for help, staying visible, taking bold chances, and having the courage to walk in your own SWAG.

Because sometimes you’re not lacking talent.

You’re not lacking potential.

You just need to get clear enough to make your next move.

What makes The Interchurch Center special?

Ask the people who help build its community every day.
As Senior Leasing & Finance Lead, Veronica Class has a unique perspective on TIC, from the organizations that call it home to the team that works behind the scenes to make this community what it is. For Veronica (along with the rest of us), the TIC team feels like family. And that same spirit of connection is at the heart of what makes The Interchurch Center NYC’s Hub for Nonprofit Collaboration and Impact.

For years, TIC may have been one of New York City’s best-kept secrets. But as more people discover what’s happening here, one thing is clear: The secret is out!
