Art that moves beyond the frame.
Page Kempner’s sculptural leaves drift across the walls of this Houston residence, turning an architectural passage into a moment of movement and discovery. Individually placed, the delicate forms create a composition that unfolds across the space, drawing the eye from one room to the next.

A century-old oak sets the terms for the architecture, shaping the home’s scale, placement, and proportion. The house responds to the tree at every level, allowing architecture and landscape to develop as a single composition. #curtisandwindham

Rita Alaoui’s work finds its place at the center of this residence, creating a compelling dialogue with the home’s soaring curves, arched openings, and quiet material palette.

California dreaming. A 1950s Surfside retreat, thoughtfully reimagined for contemporary coastal living. The renovation preserves the home’s midcentury character while refining its architectural language and strengthening its relationship to the surrounding landscape. #curtisandwindham

For this Houston residence, contemporary art lives comfortably alongside antiques, books, and objects collected over time.
A Candida Höfer photograph creates a commanding focal point in the sitting room, while Page Kempner’s delicate sculptural leaves move playfully across the adjoining walls. Elsewhere, works by Jason Karolak, Wardell Milan, and Robin Bruch introduce shifts in color, form, and scale.
Rather than following a single visual thread, this collection creates moments of contrast and connection throughout the home with each work holding its own while becoming part of a much larger story.

Known for challenging traditional ideas of painting and sculpture, Richard Tuttle often works with humble materials, unconventional forms, and an intentionally intimate scale.

Here, the work finds its place in a tucked-away corner. Sometimes the most compelling placements are the ones that invite you to come a little closer.

A collection that has found home.
For this Houston project, art was considered alongside the interiors from the beginning, allowing the collection to develop naturally as an integral part of the home. Collections like this one that seamlessly fit into a home’s design while also uniquely reflecting the personality of the collectors do not come together overnight, but are instead the product of thoughtful curation and collaboration.

The WAG Perspective
Why art should be considered early in the design process.

One of the greatest advantages of bringing an art advisor into a project early is the opportunity to let an art collection evolve alongside a home’s design.
We find it immensely gratifying to collaborate closely with designers, architects, and clients to create a collection that feels integrated from day one.
It’s this ongoing dialogue between art, architecture, and interiors that creates homes with lasting depth and character.

In the pass between a festooned Southern Live Oak and a burbling bayou’s edge, native Texan fauna share space (always a challenge.) Great Blue Herons match the gaze of a passing nine-banded armadillo, both oblivious to a snowy owl’s silent passage overhead. Dragonflies skim the water’s surface, dangerously close to the unblinking eye of a lazing alligator, leaking water over the trellis while a hare skirts along the edge.
This panel was the first of 12(!) I painted for the @juniorleagueofhouston ballroom, in my take on the Rateau style I saw at the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris. Loved every minute of playing with layered patterns, choosing what to paint in delicious detail and when to practice graphic restraint.
Thank you to @wolfholdendesignstudio for trusting me with these walls, it was an honor to be a small part of your brilliant redesign of this iconic institution.

A memorable week celebrating the creative community that makes the East End so inspiring.
•
We were delighted to be part of @easthamptonartanddesigndays joining fellow designers, architects, and artists for a series of conversations and events celebrating art, architecture, and landscape. Chris LaGuardia participated in the Creative Collaboration: From Home to Landscape panel at @west_out_east, sharing how thoughtful landscape architecture shapes the way we live and connect with place. Throughout the weekend, we also enjoyed gathering with friends and colleagues at events around East Hampton.
