Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink take their 6th world title in San Francisco.

French Courtois and her Normandy Elite Team took their sixth consecutive World Sailing Women’s Match Racing World Championship trophy on Sunday.

Impressively, Courtois and crew won 19 of their 20 matches.

The crew were: Maëlenn Lemaitre, Louise Acker and Laurane Mettraux. They raced against 11 teams and defeated American Nicole Breault’s Vela Racing 3-0 in Sunday’s Grand Final.

At St. Francis Yacht Club, the 2026 World Sailing Women’s Match Racing World Championship was an invitation-only event. Teams took to the water in J/22s in ranging conditions.

“We had 20 knots on the first day, so the sailors got the big breeze that they signed up for, and they’ve also had these tactical lighter conditions,” said Becky Ashburn, the regatta’s Course Race Officer. “I think anyone who could sail tactically and well, and who could overcome the current and figure that out to keep winning—day after day—is certainly a winner.”

Courtois was gracious in victory: “It was a really tight final; the score doesn’t reflect how tight it was.” She added,“We are really happy to win against Nicole and Team Vela. It’s always a tight battle, and it was really fun.”

As for the secret to their success, Courtois focused on speed.

“My team did an amazing job keeping the boat going fast all the time, which I think was a big key for us to win the match, because when you are faster, it’s easier,” said Courtois. “I think that’s a really big part of match racing, and it’s a big team job.”

🥈2nd at Match Race Worlds. We started at 3 wins-3 losses on day 1. And just kept chipping away. Each race in the Quarters, Semis and Finals was close. So fun going to battle with people that are so good at what they do. And such a privilege to be able to do this. Congrats to Paulien, Maelenn, Louise and Laurane. Those first two races of the finals were epic!! And to Hailey, Molly C and Nicole nice work rock stars 😉👊💥

Three days down. One left to go.
San Francisco Bay tested every team out there today with lighter than normal winds and strong current.

What stood out most wasn’t just the competition. It was the respect between these sailors, win or lose.
Tomorrow decides it all. One team becomes Women’s Match Racing World Champion.

An Aussie, 2 Brits and a Kiwi step on an ocean rowing boat… none of us had ever rowed before, so how did that happen?
We met on the Women’s World Match Racing Tour @womenswmrt competing with and against each other. At one point we have all been on the same race course.

When Hebe found out about the @worlds.toughest.row she contacted Amy, who quickly said yes. Once the ball was rolling they posted on social media and Ruby quickly responded. When looking for a 4th Charlotte didn’t take much convincing.
Now we are here and less than 3 months from starting our 3000 mile Atlantic crossing.

Meet Team Something Chill, the Annapolis-based women’s match racing team the AYC Foundation is proud to support.

Skippered by Caroline Bayless, the team has spent this season taking on the world’s best on the Women’s World Match Racing Tour. They opened the season with a dominant 10-1 run to win the U.S. Match Race Qualifier right here in Annapolis, then went on to compete at the Santa Maria Cup and the GKSS Nordea Women’s Trophy in Marstrand, Sweden, racing against Olympic medalists and some of the top ranked crews in the world.

That international experience is paying off. Team Something Chill has climbed from 14th to 11th in the world rankings this year, and they are just getting started.

AYCF grants have helped make it possible for this team to travel to these high-level events, compete on new boats in unfamiliar conditions, and gain the experience that builds champions. It is exactly the kind of investment the Foundation believes in: giving talented sailors the resources to chase the highest levels of their sport.

As Team Something Chill put it: “AYCF support allows us to travel to high-level events, continue developing as competitive sailors, and represent women’s match racing at the national and international level.”

From Annapolis to Marstrand and beyond, we’re proud to back this team every step of the way. Visit the link in bio to see who else we support and learn how to get involved. ⛵
