Neal Casal’s music continues to inspire us. Seven years after we lost him, there’s still more being uncovered: ‘Book Of Stories (Home Recordings 1998-2003),’ a newly surfaced collection of unheard songs, is out this November.

Twelve intimate solo recordings that never made it onto his official albums. “Neal became adept at playing all the instruments on his songs and making these lovely recordings,” says Gary Waldman, Neal’s longtime manager, who co-produced the collection. “Although none of these songs ever appeared on any of his official albums, there are many highlights here.”

If you’re a longtime fan or just discovering him, it’s worth your time. 💙

Following our announcement about the Johnny Cash Learning Center at Belmont University, we wanted to take a moment to reintroduce the initiative behind it: Legacy & Inspiration.

This initiative is all about supporting the preservation and celebration of artist legacies, honoring the music and stories that shaped culture so they stay vibrant and accessible for generations to come.

We’re so proud to work alongside incredible partners like the Bob Dylan Center, the Woody Guthrie Center, the Americana Music Foundation, Rhiannon Gidden’s Biscuits & Banjos Foundation, Hudson River Music Festival and now Belmont University’s Johnny Cash Learning Center, plus so many others carrying forward the music and values of legendary artists.

This is one of our four core initiatives, each devoted to musicians, their music, and their legacies. Stay tuned to see what we do next 💛

Join us in welcoming the Johnny Cash Learning Center at Belmont University as our newest partner in the Legacy & Inspiration Initiative 💛

We’re proud to have helped support the acquisition of Johnny Cash’s personal archives, now home at Belmont University’s Curb College in Nashville. His handwritten lyrics and letters will be there for students and researchers to learn from for generations. Being part of that story with the Cash family and Belmont feels like exactly what this initiative was built for.

We also got to be there for a moment that doesn’t happen often: all five of Johnny’s children together in one place. Celebrating that alongside Rosanne and her siblings was something we won’t forget.

Grateful to be part of preserving a legacy this important. Welcome to the Harper House family, Belmont.

“To the Devil or the Lord
As it hung there like a sword
Just an empty trainload of sky

Was it spirit? Was it solid?
Did I ditch that class in college?
Pulled the curtain from my eye
I said hey hey, my my”

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings stunned the audience at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights last night. A perfect summer night of music 🌟

Our friends at the @shortyfoundation kicked off the @musiconthemountain weekend in Vermont with two school visits on Friday by the Shorty Alumni Band. Bringing deeply inspired bayou culture and musical spirit to the far northeast, they left a lasting NOLA impression on students and faculty alike. Yeah you right! ⚜️

Jackie Greene, Anders Osborne and Daniel Donato played a magical campfire set on Friday night before the full day of good vibes and music on Saturday. We love that The Phoenix and Divided Sky organizations are cultivating a musical event that centers sober community, accountability, mental health and joyous expression. Clear-minded music and alcohol-free parties are here to stay, and we are honored to be part of them 💛

New here? Let’s catch you up 🎶

Harper House Music Foundation is a public charity devoted to musicians, their music, and their legacies, rooted in the belief that music is a vital and universal source of connection, joy, and meaning. Everything we do is guided by four areas of focus: Artist Development, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Legacy & Inspiration, and Community & Education.

Since our founding in March 2024, we have been humbled by the generosity and belief our community has shown for this work and are so grateful to be surrounded by people who show up for artists in a meaningful way.

This is what we are here for. 🤍 Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more about the work, the artists, and the initiatives that make up who we are. Stay tuned.
