'Swinging into Christmas' was a wonderful way to herald the season of goodwill. A charity show, it presented the talents of kids, staff, seasoned singers and celebrated choirs.

Lucky Dragon. Red Dragon. Auspicious Dragon. We had them all 😋 After all, it's the Year of the Dragon as per the Chinese lunar calendar - and we were lucky to celebrate it at Hakkasan before their month-long collaboration with fashion designer Kunal Rawal ended.

Playing with textures, hues and motifs, Rawal's interpretation of the dragon added a touch of mystique and charm to the interiors while paying homage to this revered creature. His curated cocktail menu inspired by the spirit of the Chinese New Year was intoxicating, while his co-created limited edition food menu was designed to conquer connoisseurs of the modern Cantonese cuisine that Hakkasan has mastered.

No prizes for guessing what we opted for when we had to choose between vegetarian, chicken and seafood dishes 😁

1. Imagine Dragons... on the ceiling, looking down at you!

2. Red Dragon (vodka base) to toast the Year of the Dragon - symbolising power 💪 and new beginnings.

3. Yang Martini - positive, active, masculine. Imbibed with Avocado and Passion Fruit Salad - a refreshing mix of Belgium endive, arugula, buttery avocado and crunchy macadamia nuts with plum and passion fruit dressing.

4. The Lucky Dragon, featuring Monkey 47 gin infused with dragon fruit, peach liqueur, yuzu, litchi and ginger ale, was outstanding 👌

5. Lobster puffs - delicate and delicious works of art.

6. My all-time favourite... Deep-Fried Prawn and Kumquat - succulent prawns deep-fried to a crispy exterior, complemented by citrusy kumquat and mango tossed in herbed honey.

7. The mains: Wok-tossed Grouper, Himalayan Trout and Soba noodles with prawns. The Soba Noodle 🍤 pot was tangy, nutty and aromatic - but the Stir-fry Himalayan Trout hit the right notes with its succulent trout stir-fried to perfection in a delectable blend of fermented black and red vinegar, scallions and pepper.

8. The Auspicious Dragon, a velvety spicy chocolate mousse balanced with sweetness and heat, paired with a vibrant spicy raspberry compote and a refreshing spiced raspberry sorbet.

9. The table settings by Kunal Rawal, especially designed to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

10. The entrancing entrance.

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary, Simone 💕

NOW, I FOLLOW YOU...

At first, I carried you. Then I walked beside you. Then I followed close behind. But now, I follow you from some distance. I’ve dropped back to where I belong at this particular mile marker of your journey.

Now, it’s time for you to take the lead and for me to trust I protected you well enough when I carried you and when we walked side-by-side for you to feel secure out in front.

But I’m still here, and that helps us both. I’m a few miles back, watching you do your thing. Watching you choose, navigate, figure out. You are capable, careful, and considerate. It is a privilege to see.

As an observer of your life, I am not displaced; I am in the right place. I’m a text or a phone call or a FaceTime chat or, sometimes maybe a drive away. Letting you go gradually is what helps you do it well and me to do it at all.

This is love that has loosened its grip. This is love that will always hold on, just more loosely. This is love that has an open palm outstretched, in case you need to grab onto it again.

This is love still at the ready, so that if you say, “Are you coming, mama?” as often as possible, for as long as possible, my answer will be, “Yes, I’m coming. I’ll be there soon.”

Epiphany, celebrated on January 6 or the Sunday following that date, marks the end of Christmas celebrations. While decorations are taken down, memories of joyful moments with family and friends will linger on...

Once upon a time... in Bombay!

Last night was a big deal. Like all Indians would, we agree (with the announcer) that it's a good deal when you get two for the price of one. Buy one, get one free - get it? We certainly got it in full measure at the NCPA Mumbai's Tata Theatre.

First, we were enthralled by a fabulous Western Classical Music concert by the 60-year-old Bombay Chamber Orchestra (BCO) conducted by guest conductor Gregory Rose… and then, we had to literally stop ourselves from singing aloud/ croaking along 😁 to the popular Broadway Musical hits rendered so fabulously and effortlessly by the 80 voices of the Cathedral Choir (conducted by Mario Nazareth) who joined the orchestra on stage after the briefest of intervals.

The bonus for the Louis family and friends, was that we had one of our own singing on that magnificent stage 😍
