@gdytdetroit learning what it takes to be a great land steward in @cityofdetroitdon neighborhood.

Lending a helping hand to @keepitcleanblockclub continuing to care for corner lot at 48w Statefair (foreclosure property) @detroitblackfarmerlandfund @waynecountymichigan where our great partners @detroitbarcode train youth on calisthenics bars for the am workout for community.

Then we moved around to another great partner on Remington street @workinroots trimming branches and mowing the berms.

👊🏾It’s 313 Day y’all! One way to celebrate is to get growing through the Garden Resource Program - LINK IN BIO

The GRP supports urban gardening in the city by providing high-quality resources to family, community, school, and market gardens located in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck. Participants receive seeds, transplants, personalized garden assistance from our staff, and a connection to an incredible network of gardeners, farmers, and advocates for a thriving food system across the city. To make the GRP program accessible to all, KGD follows an honor system to allow residents in need to request a fee waiver or reduced payment. Check out the link in bio to learn more 🌱

💐It’s time to give y’all some flowers for KGD’s Birthday + Valentine’s Day! Oh Garden Resource Program (GRP) members how much do we love you? LINK IN BIO to join!

Let us count some ways we’re in love with this growing community...
- The GRP successfully served more than 26,000 residents, supporting 2,283 gardens across Detroit in 2023
- 1,785 individual volunteers + 63 volunteer groups provided 4,048 total hours of service
- 711 attendees put in 2,747 hours of educational training through 80 classes
- 44 Grown in Detroit growers distributed 16,550 pounds of produce + generated $64,380 in total sales
- Since 2020, the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund has given out a total of 171 awards, with 62 new landowners who purchased a whopping 17.83 acres in the city
- 7 Build Crew trainees dedicated 777 hours to support 10 build projects, including hightunnel and rainwater collection projects
- 23 of the 25 growers that we helped apply for the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Conservation Stewardship Program received funding in 2023. That means that over the next 5 years, more than $230,000 in USDA payments will be going directly to urban growers to support their conservation efforts
- We constructed 35 rainwater collection systems to date through the Water Wise program since 2016

We LOVE you + can’t wait to GROW more with you this season!

Just sitting here reflecting on how powerful this group of people is. Almost 2 years ago I was accepted into the Land Access Fellowship with the National Young Farmers Coalition with 99 other farmers around the nation. Knowing these people and sharing life with them gives me hope for what’s to come.
