Follow our journey as we transform vacant lots into an urban community farm! #MakingSustainabilityDopeAgain

Peace and blessings everyone! It is with frustration and sheer annoyance that I make this post.

Over the past few months Workin’ Roots has experienced theft and vandalism.

Someone or some people thought it was a good idea to take the solar battery to our solar system, a significant amount of compost, the end walls to our caterpillar tunnel, the drip tape to our irrigation system, tools, sections of fencing (literally cut sections of fencing off) and damaged the front entrance gate. Our shed was ransacked, there are probably things gone I don’t even realize are missing.

I have a hard time asking for help so….. this is me asking for help. Please donate whatever you can to Workin’ Roots; whether it be money, your time, or tools you don’t use anymore……it will be greatly appreciated! (If you’d like to volunteer send me message)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Workin’ Roots, we’re a nonprofit urban community farm. We repurposed vacant lots to grow culturally appropriate nutrient dense produce that we give away in an effort to combat against food apartheid. We pride ourselves on doing the work it takes to build a resilient community.

The bright scholars from @imanifamily_education kept me on my toes today! They asked great questions. I really enjoyed sharing time and space them.

We spent our time identifying plants and their uses, planting seeds and watering. They even helped weed one of our raised beds.🤯 (Children hate pulling weeds…..Hell, I do too!) 🤣

Installed a split. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket to record at the last minute but didn’t remember to zip my suit back up. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Good thing the crew was calm! 🙏🏾 #BeekeeperShenanigans taken in Workin’ Roots by @workinroots
