An IGI, Private Harry Clarke Viewing, Meet Up

The IGI organised with the National Gallery of Ireland a special meet up for it's members yesterday. We were treated to a private viewing of some of Harry Clarke's great original pieces in the Prints and Drawings Room, curated by Niamh MacNally.
Niamh spoke expertly on all things Clarke and illustration from that period, answering all are questions and telling insightful, humorous stories about the artist and more.

After this we met more of our members in the cafe and viewed the new, excellent exhibition " From Rembrandt to Matisse " on show in the Prints gallery. Well worth a look.

To finish a few of us enjoyed a glass of wine in the sunshine. A massive thank you to the National Gallery for hosting us and to Niamh MacNally for her time, knowledge and brilliant stories on all things Harry Clarke.

These IGI meet ups are a great way for our members to meet, enjoy art, have a laugh and forge a sense of community that will last for a long time to come.

If you have an idea for a meet up please comment below. Thanks.

Friday night, disco night..... 🪩

Disco Paradiso is a 7.9% Overnight Oats DIPA from @galway_bay_brewery in collaboration with @sureshotbrew

To be honest, I wasn't too sure what overnight oats were so I didn't know what to expect.... (Feel free to Google it like me 😂)

I needn't have worried...

This has a hazy pour with citrus on the nose.

Brewed with Strata Hyperboost, Galaxy and Mosaic hops, with a whole load of oats and Nelson Sauvin....

The initial taste is quite bitter and piney, reminiscent of a west coast style but the more you drink, the bitterness settles down into a lovely, crisp drink with notes of grape, citrus and stone fruit and a resinous finish.

This is a really easy drinking beer and one to look out for.

A few more and I'll be moonwalking the night away! 🪩

And check out the very cool artwork by artist @worksofhill

Purchased from @crich_brew_co

Happy weekend and cheers everyone 🍻

PS did you spot the cameo in the image of @djpabs_x aka @pablodiscobaruk 😂

With parts of the world echoing a possible prelude to and some are committing the events depicted in this film I thought I would share this again.

The piece I illustrated for The Zone of Interest film is a warning. I find a lot of my personal work lately are becoming warnings. History moves in cycles, these cycles give us as a race the opportunity to learn and create a better future for ourselves. I am always shocked at how we continually make the same mistakes over and over.

A closer look at " The Lies We Tell Ourselves " series.

Currently on show @culturlann Affinities @illustratorsireland exhibition.

The Lies We Tell Ourselves is a fine art series I have been working on and off for six years and still ongoing. Each piece is a response to the world happenings around me. I am using this series as a cleansing, a way to vent and to hopefully start conversations.

The Wren Boy - is a layered photo / illustration piece I created for the Serendipity Exhibition that was jointly held by @illustratorsireland and @risalto.bologna Italian art collective, in Bologna, Italy. Proudly sponsored by @cultureireland

The idea behind the exhibition was that an artist from Ri Salto would create an art piece and a member of Illustrators Ireland would respond to that piece by creating an illustration. I was paired with the incredibly talented @fra.bono and her piece can be seen on slide 3 of this post.

I had a great video call with Francesca because I wanted to understand how and why she made her piece before I created mine. I was drawn to the dried Italian grass that she made her figures out of. It invoked not just the ancient tradition of the Wren Boys from Ireland but there are ancient traditions woven through many European and African cultures of dried straw/grass figures singing and dancing for various pagan and religious reasons.

I focused on the Irish Wren Boys who's modern take on the ancient tradition, would, on St Stephens Day, dress in dried grass costumes, capture a Wren and sing and dance in communities celebrating.

This fine art style is a departure from my usual work but I really wanted to connect all my love's, fine art, photography and illustration in one piece.
