A wine list is a kind of anthology. It’s a gathering of places, vintages and voices you meet along the way of this little wacky journey of wine and it only comes alive in the hands of those who pour it. This recognition belongs to them: a team of rare generosity, objective talent and above all a deep passion for what they do, and the little WA beachside restaurant that, year after year, keeps quietly outgrowing its own ambitions.

To receive the inaugural Peter Forrestal Award for Best Listing of WA Wines is a particular honour. Forrie’s friendship and counsel have shaped more of my thinking than he may know, and his voice is woven tightly through the story of West Australian wine.

And to the late-evening chapter of the list, our ever-expanding collection of digestifs and fortifieds, curated by the talented @kitkat_safari
