The United Kingdom government will ban extreme pornography beginning November 6. Specifically, the legislation will ban pornography that depicts strangulation or suffocation, incest or the presentation of incestuous relationships, and content where someone is pretending to be under 16 years old.

The UK government’s action recognizes that pornography can play a role in glorifying and normalizing sexual violence, as well as eroding viewers’ understanding of consent. This landmark law is a model the US can and should adopt.

THE HIDDEN CRISIS: WOMEN ABUSED BY POLICE OFFICERS.

I am so fucking tired of a system that fails women, silences survivors, and makes us fight to be believed.

Especially when the people we report for abuse are the very people who were supposed to protect us.

When women come forward about abuse by police officers, they should not have to spend years fighting to be heard, chasing accountability, and begging the very system that failed them to take them seriously.

We should never have to fight the system for justice after surviving the people who abused us.

We shouldn’t have to turn to the place that failed us in the first place.

How many women have to be ignored, disbelieved, and failed before someone finally decides that enough is enough?

Because this isn’t just a failure of individuals. It’s a crisis of accountability.

And the silence surrounding it is costing women their lives, their safety, and their faith in a system that was supposed to protect them.

Intoxication is NOT consent.

Right now, survivors and activists are taking to the front lines in New York to demand lawmakers close the “voluntary intoxication loophole.”

Because of the way current laws are written in many states, if a victim chooses to consume drugs or alcohol, the burden of proof skyrockets. The law essentially forces survivors to prove they were entirely physically helpless or unconscious to prove they could not consent to sexual activity. This outdated legal standard was recently thrust into the spotlight following the horrifying allegations at Cornell University, and it is a stark reminder of how the justice system continues to fail survivors.

Choosing to have a drink with your friends does not mean you surrender your bodily autonomy. A predator using a victim’s impairment against them is assault, period.

We stand with the advocates demanding change. It is time to close the loophole.

it’s been 7 years of silence and avoidance from the New York State Assembly and its Speaker, Carl Heastie.

the Cornell Jane Doe’s case might have actually been prosecuted back in 2024 if the loophole had been closed in 2019 — when the effort was originally introduced. we say: ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

no more sacrificial lambs. survivors deserve safety!

To every child who survived what she never should have had to endure: you made it. 🧡

For too long, survivors were silenced while the adults who abused their power were protected.

This summer, Massachusetts @massgovernor took a step toward changing that by passing the Trusted Adults Act. Teachers, coaches, and other adults in positions of authority can no longer exploit the age of consent to escape accountability for sexually abusing 16- and 17-year-olds in their care.

For every survivor who found their voice, and every survivor still finding theirs, this is for you.

This week was a doozy…
It was a lot to absorb.
So grateful for @rosie @robertdenirodaily @rosannaarquette @redactedreadingroom @defiancedotorg and my beautiful @epsteinsurvivorsisters for kicking it off with a press conference and a moment of calling out the failures in our case. We spent the following day in front of MoMa calling attention to powerful perpetrators who continue to serve on boards while abusing the power of being connected to credible institutions
The week ended in jumping from teaching in NY, to experiencing a march in DC with @cheyenne.l.hunt @alvanewyorkcity @aaronparnas @worldweus and The reckoning that will sit with me until my last days. I was reminded of who this fight is really for. The passion, power, and courage from the students at GW and everyone that marched to the White House was palpable. As a dance teacher in independent schools, I couldn’t help to feel a sense of failing the next generation. I wanted to teach classic repertoire, not how to survive being questioned after rape or how to navigate media after.

To my students: I’m sorry that you are inheriting this. It breaks me to think about it and I promise to keep sharing my story and keep standing with you until we find an end to it. You deserve better.

After the march, I flew to New Hampshire and spent today in Maine. It was hopeful to see candidates @jeffdunlap @pappasfornh and @stefanyshaheennh stop by the bookmobile and want to know what happened so history stops repeating.

I will stand by facts and education always.
We will keep on keeping on until we see real accountability.
Time to get rid of the generational price tag bestowed on being female.

To the organizations that made this week possible, thank you!🩷

One week ago, we gathered at @asiasociety on Gandhi’s birth anniversary for the 10th Annual Last Girl Awards to honor those working toward a world where no girl is bought or sold.

It was an evening of recognizing the fearless leaders advancing this work and reflecting on how much remains to be done.
