It always has been YOU!

As an artist, I draw inspiration from you, not just people I read about, research, or see on screens - people I connect with in real life, such as my family, friends, neighbours, crafters, farmers, technicians, collaborators, curators, managers, directors, baristas, event organisers, historians, sportspeople, writers, sailers, musicians, artists, parents, teachers, photographers, drivers, community leaders, activists… the list goes on.

Real people, exchanging our experiences face to face. I enjoy learning about your passion, whatever that might be. Last week, I connected with someone who is obsessed with lichens, and now I, too, am obsessed with lichens (not as much as I am obsessed with straw). Passion is contagious.

My art inspiration stems from these strong connections, from nature, location, history, and how we all hold space together at the same time. I believe the way to connect with ourselves is through other people and our environment.

These are just a few snippets of valuable connections I have made in the last couple of months while preparing for The Mother Lode exhibition. It extends beyond this post. Thank you to everyone with whom my paths crossed. This would have never come to life without You.

Edge Land is a two-year arts project launching in Autumn 2025 along the Suffolk coast and its hinterland. Led by artist and curator Jennifer Hall, it brings together artists, writers, poets, photographers, and performers to creatively explore a landscape in transition.

The Suffolk coast is currently experiencing profound environmental and human-made change – from the effects on the natural landscape of changing weather patterns and erosion, to the construction of major energy infrastructure. EDGE LAND invites creative responses to this environment in transition, reflecting on its geology, biodiversity, cultural histories, and the social tensions of transformation.

Covering the full length of the Suffolk coast from Lowestoft to Felixstowe, its hinterland and extending out to sea, the project will generate new artistic works, events and conversations that explore the complexities of a coast at the threshold of change.

What a coincidence! I knew I was stewarding the Suffolk Open Studios exhibition yesterday with @worrallvm but when I arrived our work was hung side by side and worked perfectly together.
It was lovely to meet Veronica and to chat about our own working methods among many other things. 😂
We were also visited by @sarahmilne11 and @kim.brown19 so all in all it was a lovely morning.

Current exhibition at the Frame Workshop and Gallery on St Nicholas Street, Ipswich: Ruth C Day and Veronica M Worrall ARPS. Tuesday-Saturday 9-4 daily.

Our first ‘Meet the Artist’ event went down so well that Ruth will be returning Thursday 26th to chat about her printing process. 1:30-4. Exhibition until Saturday 28th September.

If you didn’t know, we are right next the Cromwell Square carpark and just a 15 minute walk from the train station.
