hi basanti,

it's been a year since you've been gone. a year of breaking down in my room when my old tshirt still carried your scent. a year of randomly crying at work because a memory popped up on my phone of you cuddling me. a year of realising that your voice is slowly fading from my memory. a year of trying hard and holding onto whatever I can remember of you because my brain keep betraying my heart and forgetting parts of you.

a year of blaming and hating myself for letting you go, of losing you slowly, in physical sense at first and then misplacing the recollection of your existence in my mind.

i still remember carrying you in my arms, your tiny body struggling to keep living as I rushed inside the hospital. I'm still stuck in that moment when they told me they couldn't do anything to save you. i live in that moment I broke down on my knees every single day since then.

i still have that memory fresh behind my eyes, the moment I carried your lifeless body home and gave Hrittik a call to come and say his goodbyes. I'm still there when he sat on my bed and broke down facing the wall because he couldn't believe that you weren't here with us anymore.

when we carried you to bury you in dirt, neither of us could comprehend that you were truly gone. that we wouldn't be able to hear your tiny screams, or over feed you just because, or bribe you with treats or snuggle you on hard days. we each kissed your face goodbye with a heart shattered in million pieces and that day, we buried our broken heart with you to carry into heaven.

i live each day counting down to when I get to see you again. I hope you aren't alone or scared. I hope your brothers and sisters play with you all the time. I hope you don't miss me too much but at the same time I hope you haven't forgotten about me.

you are my home, my family, my son, my soulmate. you are my everything and you took everything with you wherever you went. Losing you ended me. I lost who I was the day you left me.

I hope you forgive me for not being the perfect parent you deserved. and no matter how many tears I cry in this lifetime, i would always choose you - every single time, in every fucking universe.
