“Mountains in Snow” was painted in 1943 by an amazing pair of sisters Jennie and Ethel Magafan in a commission for the then-new Social Security Building in Washington D.C. Hailing from Colorado, they first gained notice for murals each painted earlier in Nebraska under a WPA program. The Magafans’ federal building commission was the only one assigned to women, the other artists chosen for the project were all men. My piece about the sisters’ work, now endangered by a possible sale of the government building, appears in “Objectives” — the Journal of History of Design and Curatorial Studies from the Parsons School of Design-Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the program from which I received my MA earlier this year. #linkinbio #preservation #mural #washingtondc #womenartists

What a fabulous turnout at Hickok Cole’s Art Night last Thursday. Two of my paintings were chosen to be exhibited-Sanctuary’ 30x24, mixed media, and ‘Enchanted Forest’ 24x36 also mixed media. To my utter delight Sanctuary sold right at the start of the auction! What made it even better was that I was introduced to the couple who purchased it! A memorable evening indeed. The sale continues online at .artnight2026.bigcartel.com until Thursday October 23 at 6.30 pm. So there is still time to purchase art and support the participating artists and Washington Project for the Arts.

🎨 Art Night 2026 at Hickok Cole
We had a great time Thursday night at Hickok Cole’s annual fundraiser Art Night, branded as “Art Knight” this year. An honor to be part of it—my three pieces there are Inner Garden and Lily Den from the Perspective series, and Uplift II from the Architectural series. Details on my website.
As the main event of the year to raise funds for the Washington Project for the Arts, this event is always the best opportunity to meet and mingle with other local artists and art lovers while supporting our community.
The event already raised $195,330 by 8 pm, a record-breaking amount—the biggest fundraiser in 26 years—with 90+ artists participating. The online auction runs through October 22. See link on my website.
Here are some of the artists featured in my snapshots: @joan_konkel @abarnesart @samkittner @jordanhamlettsanders @artbysarabardin @alexandra_arata @lindsaymuellerart @emonsurakitkoson @milkweedmadonna @artbyashodges @johnaquilinoartist @danyxart @luciennemettam @laurellukaszewski @xenia.gray @musz.studio @kathy.cornwell.art @andreacybykart @delnadastur @dxva28 @mirahecht @kungcheekeong @hannahcutspaper @ejohns.art @gibsonhunterstudio @fallon_chase @yi.ruri @ali_wunderartworks @adjoaburrowes_art. Last night was a wonderful night to celebrate the arts at art night @hickokcole - I’m so honored to be included.

Every fall @hickokcole partners with @wpadc to host Art Night, a juried art show and benefit of 90 plus local artists with proceeds going to further Washington Project for the Arts. It is a yearly event that continues to support and raise funds for the amazing creative art scene in Washington D.C and, most importantly , to keep the arts alive and strong in this city!

All the pieces from the show are up and for sale (while supplies last!) on their virtual gallery. Link to gallery is in my bio. You can also head over to @hickokcole Instagram page to learn more. Sales will continue until Thursday, October 23rd at 6:30pm.

Two of my framed pieces , Lone Cypress One, Lake Marion and Lone Cypress Two, Lake Marion are available for purchase in the virtual gallery.

50% of the proceeds go back to the arts community! This is a great opportunity to start your personal collection and even give local art as holiday gifts this season
