HSoA is delighted to have awarded Maureen Grayson & Rachel Tooth the joint winners of the Abstract Painting Prize, Women in Art 2024. Congratulation’s both, we look forward to curating your joint exhibition at HSoA Gallery.
”At the Women in Art Prize we champion women artists and try to play our part in correcting the imbalance in the art world. Did you know top London galleries exhibit more work by male artists than female and that their work sells for more than their female counterparts? Women are also underrepresented in the major roles in the art world and paid less. We are here to help change that!”.

New Journal Post:

Natural Dyeing: A Heritage of Colour at the V&A

It’s been an incredibly busy few weeks for us, but as we sit this weekend, a little dazed and exhausted, I can safely say our course ‘Natural Dyeing: A Heritage of Colour‘ at the V&A Academy couldn’t have gone better! If you missed this opportunity, contact the V&A Academy to register your interest – 2024 is just around the corner!

You can read more about it and see the full set of pictures in our journal at moderneccentrics.com

‘Silk painting by Project’ inspired by themes & processes, this is a centuries-old technique worked onto white silk with dyes painted directly onto the stretched surface of the silk using a brush. The dyes flow in a mesmerising way creating a painterly experience like no other! flowing into the fibers & bonding with the proteins they become part of the silk itself, unlike other paints which sit on the surface. Learn this wonderful technique & work in project style, every Friday. Join us! 😀

We are so proud of the artists who lead the creative way at HSoA who incorporating their knowledge & personal practice into their teaching, making classes relevant & personal to each individual. Thanks to each of you, 2023 will be another great year! 😀.

Celebrating with our community of artists, students, community partners & visitors is very important to us! The annual service in the consecrated Chapel is a wonderful event that gives us an opportunity to come together in spirit & collaboration- with the amazing back drop of Alan Gouk paintings!
Thanks to Alistair Tressider of St Lukes, Bernard Heymann Chair of the Cemetery Committee, Erich Wagner & Flick Ray until recently local Councillor for 30 years! & everyone who helped us especially HsoA Trustee Wendy Mackinnon & Jasper for playing live music! & to Anne Heymann for baking the delicious mince pies! 🎄
