We created our own little secret garden for this year’s Women Can Women Do Luncheon. This event is an opportunity to celebrate community and support survivors and families throughout Northern Michigan and we’re grateful to be a small part of it.

Today, Sommer and Haley stepped away from the office to attend the Women Can Women Do Luncheon benefiting the @wrcnm, an organization that Sommer and Keep it Real Social have proudly supported for many years.

Sommer served as a table host again this year, but we have to give major credit to her longtime friend @jl_miller_interior_design for bringing this table to life. Sommer and Jodi go all the way back to high school and share a serious love of @dietcoke . A few texts, a fun idea, and Jodi took it from there.

And WOW, did she deliver.❤️🤍

Diet Coke, red bows, rhinestones, disco balls, lights, and all the details. Jodi took the vision and completely knocked it out of the park.

As fun as the table was, the reason everyone gathered is what matters most. We were proud to spend the afternoon supporting the important work the Women’s Resource Center does for women and families throughout Northern Michigan.

Thank you, Jodi, for sharing your creativity and making Sommer’s @dietcoke dreams come true, and thank you to everyone who came together today to support such an important organization. ❤️🥤✨

If you know me, you know two things about me: I am a HUGE supporter of @wrcnm of Northern Michigan, and I really, really love @dietcoke. So naturally, at some point, these two worlds were destined to collide.

For several years, I’ve attended the Women Can Women Do Luncheon in Emmet County, and for the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a table host. I invite some pretty great women to join me in supporting the WRC, and I always like to have a little fun with the table gift and theme.

Enter my longtime friend @jl_miller_interior_design. And when I say longtime, I mean we go all the way back to high school. Jodi knows my Diet Coke obsession well because she shares it. So, a few texts started flying back and forth, ideas got bigger, and somehow THIS was the result.

And WOW. Jodi absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Diet Coke. Red bows. Rhinestones. Disco balls. Sparkle. More Diet Coke. I mean, come on. This table was basically my personality in centerpiece form.

But underneath all the fun is something that means a whole lot to me. The Women’s Resource Center does incredibly important work in our Northern Michigan communities, and I’m proud to support an organization that shows up for women and families when they need it most.

Thank you to every one of my guests for joining me, supporting a cause I love, and absolutely NAILING the dress code. And Jodi, thank you for taking our slightly ridiculous Diet Coke vision and making it even better than I imagined.

This one is going to be hard to top next year. And yes, there was plenty of Diet Coke to drink. ❤️🤍

Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is believe someone.

Hear Gail Kloss, Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan and this month’s Cents of Community recipient, talk about the importance of believing someone when they share what they’re experiencing — and offering support without judgment.

The Women’s Resource Center is here to help, offering support, counseling, therapy and resources to those who need them. No matter what someone is going through, they don’t have to face it alone.

We’re proud to support the Women’s Resource Center through this month’s Cents of Community campaign. Every time you round up at the register, you’re helping make these vital resources available to people in our community.

Hot takes from my tent with the one and only Priya Mann. Thank you Priya for elevating our message to end gender-based violence and domestic abuse!

Thank you JoJo Dries from @onthewingsofangelsnonprofit for connecting us, and for being a forever badass.

Thank you Orsa Credit Union for envisioning, creating, and supporting the Choose The Bear Tour. Orsa is leading the way for financial institutions to show up for women in tangible ways. I’m proud to work with them.

Thank you to the extraordinary network of survivors, frontline workers, and systems workers across Michigan who are doing the gritty, powerful, beautiful work to end gender-based violence and domestic abuse. You are my heroes.

Thank you to Uniting Three Fires Against Violence and the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for your work with survivors across the state.
Domestic violence is systemic: it affects people from every background and walk of life. It’s also intertwined with racism, colonialism, homophobia, and the many systems of hierarchy that bind and enforce patriarchal norms. Breaking the cycle means building genuine relationships of care and mutuality. @utfav1 and @mcedsv do this brilliantly.

The bike journey ends today in Detroit. Tomorrow (Tuesday July 21) from 5:30 to 7:30 we’re hosting a public meet and greet at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor. If you’re in the area, please come by and say hi!
