● HOLLYHOCK HOUSE

Built in 1921, the Hollyhock House is Frank Lloyd Wright’s first design in Los Angeles California. The fresco forms in the pillars were inspired by the hollyhock flower, and its present in all facets of the home. Made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019, Wright fully embraced the Southern California modernist movement with this beautiful home in LA.

I came for the architecture… and ended up solving a beautiful little mystery. 🔎✨

Tucked away in a dimly lit art studio at Frank Lloyd Wright’s @kentuckknob, a portrait of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe—the famous German-American modernist architect behind “less is more”—stopped me in my tracks.

But it wasn’t Mies who caught my eye. It was the photograph. The dramatic play of light and shadow, a face emerging from darkness… the unmistakable work of Yousuf Karsh/Հովսեփ Քարշ, the legendary Armenian-Canadian master portraitist behind THE iconic Winston Churchill photograph and many other notable figures in history. And there, partially obscured in the corner, was his signature. 📸

I mentioned it to our guide, Anna, who invited me to investigate after the tour.

She pulled up the art inventory:
Photographer: UNKNOWN.
Date: UNKNOWN

A little detective work confirmed it. It was a Karsh!

But the discovery was about to become far more personal…

As Anna began reading his biography, she noticed his birthplace: “Born in Turkey, so he’s…”

“Actually…” I interjected.

Karsh was Armenian, and like my own grandfather, a survivor of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, in which 1.5 million Armenians were systematically murdered by the Ottoman Turkish Authorities. That’s three out of every four Armenians living on their ancestral, indigenous lands. Seventy-five percent of a people.

The painful irony of a man who spent his life capturing the identities of others, only to nearly have his own mistaken for that of the very nation that sought to erase him—and who’s government continues to deny the Armenian genocide today.

Anna understood immediately. Out came a pen and neon-blue Post-it to flag the museum record to note. ✍🏼🇦🇲

And what are the odds? Of all the visitors, on all the days, another Armenian—and descendant of genocide survivors—happened to recognize his work tucked away in that little studio. Continued in comments….👇🏼💭

Some pictures of Chicago taken with my Fuji. My first baby steps with the camera.

photographs of me in Paris by my dear friend Coni, wearing a Rick Owens dress ( the pattern is by Rick, but actually it’s made in my moms atelier) , that I actually wore backwards. was playing with it one day with my mom and realized it could be worn another way.

World of concrete, minimalism, unusual proportions.

Chicago. extraordinary architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright, house music - all grows like a flower through concrete.

From Paris with love. 🤍

Day 2 in Chicago

I could share literally thousands of photos from my afternoon in Oak Park.
The trip up the Sears (Willis) tower was a lovely way to see the city and lean a bit more about the late mid century movement in #chicago from the @chiarchitecture tour guide and the sky deck is something else.
But after that it felt like a pilgrimage.
#oakpark is a place you have to visit - quiet different from the big city and only 45 mins out from the centre but a insightful look back at early 1900s. Apparently it was super conservative “a place of large homes and small minds” according to Hemingway who grew up there and was a segregated community and alcohol free for decades.

Also the home of the Frank Lloyd Wright.

His first family home has its own chequered and interesting history. Built with a loan from Louis Sullivan - on terms Frank later reneged on - and is an evolution of his style with constant re-workings, borrowed details and “repurposed” elements from other projects he was working on at the time for Sullivan.
His later studio and office - where Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony met - next door is a more polished thesis on his Prairie Style and use of space. It’s wonderful to be in.

You can see more of this evolution of this style in 25 homes around Oak Park. I think I saw 15 doing over 25k steps. A bike would have been a good idea.

And lastly I joined a few other very excited architects from all over the world in touring the Unity Temple.
This was very special. Took so many photos. The building is still used by the same congregation and listed as a UNESCO site of world heritage. It was renovated in the 70s with a render coating of shotcrete - done by FLW’s son - as the original concrete finish wasn’t properly protected. It would have been good to see the original finish but that didn’t take away from the interior which is just stunning and after visiting the home you can read the way in which early experiments in lighting and space is refined. A wonderful experience.

FLW is a difficult man to celebrate as a person but as an artist, marketer and salesman he was amazingly talented. Just don’t get him to design to a bu

Today, October 13, 2026, is my 34th birthday! Here’s what the last year has looked like. 📸🎞️🎃🍁✨💀👻

In my 33rd year I married my best friend. I saw some of the most beautiful parts of the country and had the joy of taking pictures of some of the cutest weddings, engagements and elopements ever.

I traveled to Florida, South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I photographed everything I saw on film. I finally convinced my moms to let me take their pictures. I saw a lot of friends and made a bunch of new, very talented friends! I decorated my body with some more tattoos and piercings.

I had a seizure for the first time in 8 years. I watched my little sister find her passion and kick ass at motocross. I watched my baby sister graduate high school and start college. I watched my friend since we were babies have a baby.

I rebranded, ran a business and still went about every day living with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, endometriosis, ADHD, PMDD, POTS, and more. I leaned into my disabilities for my rebranding, choosing to only shoot film because of my Visual Snow Syndrome. I did about 24 photoshoots. I probs drove @gelatinlabs nuts. I laughed a lot, I cried a lot, and I’m grateful for all of it.

Thank you everyone for supporting me and my work. I get stupid sentimental and corny about photography, but it’s been my passion for 18 years now, and getting to do this full time makes all the hard stuff worth it.

Having disabilities is it’s own full time job, so getting paid to do what I love definitely makes life a bit easier (even though it’s actually a lot harder running your own business but it’s fine cause I love it 😂).

Thank you to my clients for all your trust. I know how important it is having your most important day captured, and the fact that you chose me — a very weird disabled woman — to capture those memories, means the world to me 😂🥰💕 Thank you to my family and friends for loving me for who I am and supporting me always. Can’t wait for what this next year brings!

Fun fact: October 13, 1992 was also a Tuesday. There’s no reason you need to know this, but now you do. Cheers, and happy Tuesday!

This final public space of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design is a circular, 3,000-seat center for the performing arts with a concert hall, proscenium theater, classrooms and offices. It was based on Wright’s non-realized plan for the Baghdad Opera House, one of a series of structures planned by the architect but never realized in Iraq.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

A design principle that connects people and nature through built environments. It integrates direct nature (light, water, air, plants) and indirect nature (organic shapes, materials, textures) into architectural and interior spaces to enhance human well-being, health, and productivity.

Here are some of our inspirations when we start Mosswood Stay
