Part 3/3 (last one before the dreaded election)

The caption of the previous two posts explained the awful situation my country is currently in, and which inspired them in the first place.

We have one week before the election, and everything remains uncertain.

If you are religious, I ask you to keep Brazil in your prayers.
If you are not, then please spare a thought for us nevertheless.

And if you are in any position, anywhere in the world where you can land us a hand in spreading information or protesting, I ask you to do so.

And if you are Brazilian: come the 25th, we vote 13. For our survival.

(Part 2 of 3)

In case you are not aware: Brazil is currently holding presidential elections, with the last vote happening on the 25th, and we’re probably in the direst situation we’ve ever been since the end of the military dictatorship in the 80s.

We have just elected the single most far-right senate in our recent history, and given the far-right an absolute majority in congress.

Amongst the most notable far-right figures elected, we have *the entire family* of our last president, who was condemned to 27 years in prison for attempting a coup (which included recorded plans of kidnapping and hanging the elected president and at least one Supreme Court judge in public squares), and is currently incarcerated; a woman who defends the end of women’s vote, who staunchly repeats that femicide does not exist, and who has gone on record to say that she believes that “any man should have the right to send her back to the kitchen if he wants to”; a man who has declared that he “is a threat” to minorities, and that “as minorities, he will put them in their place”; and another woman who is well-known for defending the end of women’s vote, whose identifying accessory is a Nazi symbol she wears *everywhere*, and who celebrated her election by brandishing a whip on the streets.

Should Bolsonaro be elected with that majority, he will be able to do exactly *whatever he wants* with no limitations or reigning in from the legislative or judiciary powers.

In the first 48h after these results, the far-right presidential candidate has given a public declaration about how he intends to change our constitution, increase the time of a presidential mandate, and “redemocratize” the country - a word which has historically carried one connotation in Brazil: dictatorship.

Several prominent right-wing figures in the country, many who up until yesterday despised the current government, have come together in public support of Lula due to the sheer terror of what will happen to this country should Flávio Bolsonaro be elected come the end of the month.

I’m a little out of sorts, so bear with me while we go through this. And pray, or think, of us; we need it.
