- Introducing Me -

Hello darlings - I thought I’d do a little introduction. I’ve been a content creator in several pages for years, but I decided to create this one specifically to separate and focus on my bookish and writing content.

Besides being a content creator, I am also a historian, a published translator, and a writer and critical media analyst.

My current WIP (placeholder name for Instagram purposes “The Victoria Project”) will - hopefully - be my debut fiction novel, written under the name T. E. Lennox, but I already have a published non-fiction book, and a few others in the making, under my full name.

In this account, I plan to share everything literature and writing, and, hopefully soon enough, tips and resources for writers as well.

This is a little summary of who I am as a reader and writer: my favourite books, the basics of my WIP and the like. I hope you enjoy it and stick around 🖤

Let me know in the comments: who are you? What are your favourite books? What are you currently reading? Are you a writer? If so, what’s your book or WIP about?

I love titling things. I do. I truly, really, earnestly do. But giving things titles is HARD. No wonder we have about two tons of books named the infamous “A (noun) of (noun) and (noun)” out there (and if you’re thinking of a name like that for any of your works, please kill it with fire. The title, not your work.)

We often do titles very wrong. We have an urge to make them beautiful and sweeping, or mysterious (which is often code for vague), or all-encompassing. The vast majority of the time, these all mean your title is doing no work whatsoever.

And make no mistake: the title is part of the text. It has to earn its existence most like everything else in it.

To go even further, not only your title is part of your text, but it is probably one of the most important things you’ll write for it, since that can be (and often is) the difference between whether or not someone will even pick up what you wrote and give it a fair shot.

So writers, here’s what to remember:

1. Your title is an extension of your work. Treat it like one.

2. Make sure that your title fits the work. Take into consideration genre, age range, target audience and the general style and voice of your own writing. A title that does not fit in with the story or book it prefaces is incredibly jarring and can lead to frustration on the reader’s end.

3. Your title is a great opportunity to deepen the readers understanding of the story and tie in the entire thesis of it together. It does not have to do that, but try to think of ways in which it might.

4. You can be clever in your titling - if you have a way to genuinely do it well. Double entendres, play of words and hidden references can be wonderful layers to add to a title. They’re also not a necessity “just because”. Use them well.

5. The title is an anchor. It makes a promise to the reader, and may tells the reader what the text ultimately is about. When thinking of a title, make sure you are not misleading them with it. by @writerofwinter
