Thank you, Roots Fund, Family. Thank you for being a part of this great work that we do. Can you believe it’s been 6 years of hard work? Your support has led to 3.5 million dollars in scholarship funds for 384 scholars over the years, along with our own WSET school. You have supported educational scholarships, tasting groups, tutoring, travel expenses, college tuition, mentorship services, life support services, mental health, and career development. Thank you to our school partners, chefs, restaurateurs, mental health networks, auction houses, wineries, spirit companies, distributors, and importers. It takes a village to support his work. Your funds have helped to allow our scholars to get certified, travel the world, get passports, and create once-in-a-lifetime memories. Our board appreciates your commitment. Pop et Hip Hop kicked off with the Pre-Game Dinner 🥂 We gathered with sponsors, artists, winemakers, and friends for a paulée-style dinner at the stunning Château de Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Chef @philippe_mille of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant @arbanereims and his team served a gastronomic summer menu while magnums and jeroboams were shared generously throughout the evening. A heartfelt thank you to the Frey Family for opening their doors and welcoming us into such a special place. Following our most recent event, we are reminded that our partners, The Roots Fund are not simply about programming or charity. While programming can disappear and charity is something you can give to and then stop, their work focuses on something more impactful: cultural shift. Our project and partnership with them are based on this principle. Executive Director Ikimi Dubose Woodson will ask you, “Why would you not want your table to look like the world you live in?” Wine has the power to gather us all around tables and at parties, and we want to see cultural shift in these spaces. It’s not about guest spots at the table, it’s about permanent ones. Opening our doors further to invite, welcome, and support a more inclusive and diverse community in wine. The Roots Fund is a nonprofit organization created to empower underrepresented communities in the wine and spirits industry by providing resources and financial support. We provide educational scholarships, mentorship, and career pathways. Roots Fund is committed to investing in communities to bring opportunities to those seeking a career in wine and spirits. To strengthen our commitment to support the restaurant and hospitality industry, we honor Chef Jamal “James” Kent with a scholarship in his name, “It was All a Dream” Chef James Kent Hospitality Scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to underrepresented hospitality workers who are looking to advance their education in wine and spirits. We welcome our newest cohort to the family. @chefjameskent we did our big one this time. Talk amongst yourselves. We’ll keep “doing the work.” We appreciate our hospitality professionals, from the chefs to the utility staff, to the servers, floor staff, and every person that plays a role in creating our experiences.
