👞🌎 Big news from TapIN! For the past five years, our Bay Area community has donated hundreds of tap shoes—and now those shoes are going even farther. ❤️ TapIN Youth Dance Ensemble is proud to announce a new collaboration with the Chloe & Maud Foundation and their Tap Into Life initiative, helping provide tap shoes to young dancers in after-school programs around the world. 🌍✨ This summer, our large shipment found new feet at the Compton Summer Tap Program—and we’re just getting started. To every studio, dancer, family, and volunteer who has donated, sorted, cleaned, and packed shoes: you made this possible. 🙌🏽 Bay Area studios! #WordsOfWisdom from Isla Niezgoda (@islajean). She knows what she’s talking about. 💜 Let’s unpack this for a moment. There are three main things to take away from this, much of which you have heard before in some way from several different people. (1) “You don’t have to be perfect.” The desire to get every step, every sound, every rhythm, every movement, exactly perfect is normal. It’s human. Getting them correct is a reasonable goal, but here’s an important truth: perfection is never attainable. Perfectionism is the enemy of growth; you cannot grow without failing. I’m guilty of this, too; I often find myself trying to get everything exactly perfect. (2) “Just consistent.” In order to stay healthy and fit, working out at the gym or going out running takes consistency. Same thing with tap dance. Yes, we all have lives off the dance floor, and for this reason, it can be a challenge to find time to practice or take classes. Nevertheless, the more consistent about your practice regimens, the better of a tap dancer you will become. Consistency is key. (3) “Put your shoes on. Get in the studio. Put the work in.” Tap dance is FUN! And we all want to have fun doing what we love to do. That’s highly important, because if you’re not having fun doing it, then why are you doing it? But don’t get it twisted; tap dance is challenging to learn, and it takes a lot, I repeat, A LOT (!!!) of HARD WORK, DEDICATION, SWEAT, and PERSEVERANCE. And I’m not talking about 30 minutes here or 45 minutes there. I’m talking about a handful of hours at a time. Yes, I know, finding that kind of time is hard. And not every tap dancer has access to a viable studio space like other tap dancers do. Trust me, I totally get it. But if you commit to putting in the work, practicing consistently for hours at a time, and taking classes whenever and wherever possible, you’ll notice a great many changes before too long. 💜 Repost from @islajean Friendly reminder. Put your shoes on. Get in the studio. Put the work in 🩷 #dance #danceteacher #tapdance #dancersofinstagram
