A refined 1960s-inspired aesthetic, contemporary functionality and timeless design.

SHAPE Sydney delivered a premium workplace fitout for Pinsent Masons across Levels 16 and 17 at 33 Alfred Street, Sydney. Designed by Bates Smart, the workplace pays homage to the building’s heritage, with a striking interconnecting stair seamlessly linking the two levels.

The fitout features a welcoming reception that doubles as an event space, a sophisticated breakout area, boardrooms, meeting rooms and open-plan workspaces.

A key achievement was a 30% reduction in embodied carbon emissions compared with a defined reference project, achieved through the careful selection of low-carbon materials and the reuse of existing furniture.

Project Highlight

We’re proud to mark the completion of the new St Mary’s Catholic College Secondary Campus in Woolloomooloo, delivered on behalf of Sydney Catholic Schools.

WINIM are proud to have been involved in the delivery of this landmark education project through to completion, transforming the heritage-listed 1941 ACI building into a contemporary co-educational secondary campus as part of the College’s expansion to a K–12 school.

Accommodating more than 800 students, the campus delivers contemporary learning environments while carefully preserving the building’s significant heritage character, balancing complex heritage, stakeholder and live-site requirements throughout delivery.

Thank you to Sydney Catholic Schools and our project partners for their collaboration throughout the project.

Chifley South.

This development is really starting to take shape with stunning facade becoming visible above the barriers.

I would have preferred some direct sunlight, however due to the south west aspect, it will be another month or so before the sun starts hitting the facades.

Not an easy building to photograph at ground level so the drone got a good workout.

The Chifley South project is a $1.8 billion commercial expansion at 2 Chifley Square in Sydney CBD. Designed as a companion building to the existing 1992 Chifley Tower (now designated as Chifley North), the development will expand the overall precinct into a $3.8 billion, twin-tower complex.

Key Architectural & Structural Features

- Companion Urban Ensemble: Designed by Bates Smart to harmonize with Kohn Pedersen Fox’s original 1992 Art Deco-inspired Chifley North tower without directly copying it.
- Reimagined Podium & Double-Height Arcade: The existing podium is being partially demolished and reconfigured to introduce a double-height pedestrian arcade connecting Hunter and Bent Streets, complete with an central "Urban Room" meeting space.
- Active Verandah & Public Realm: Features an open, inviting entry with operable glass facades set within a masonry frame that complements the existing limestone/granite base of Chifley Square.
- Live Environment Engineering: Built is constructing Chifley South on a tight CBD plot while the active Chifley North tower remains fully occupied and operational throughout construction.

Sustainability & Energy Standards

- 100% Precinct Electrification: The entire Chifley precinct (North and South) is converting fully to electric power supplied by 100% renewable energy sources.
- Net-Zero & Carbon Neutral Targets: Targeting Climate Active Carbon Neutral Building certification in alignment with the City of Sydney’s Net Zero Strategy.
- High Efficiency Benchmarks: Targeted ratings include 6-Star Green Star, 5.5-Star NABERS Energy, and WELL Platinum certification.

Sam Mendoza is the National Infrastructure Lead and a Director at WT, a leading international project advisory firm. Sam has extensive experience in all infrastructure sectors with a particular focus on transport (rail and metro), energy and renewables. Leading a team of cost advisors, Sam has over 15 years’ experience advising major projects including feasibility studies and business cases, cost, commercial and risk management, procurement and delivery. Throughout his career, Sam has a played a key role in planning and delivering some of the most city-shaping projects, such as Parramatta Light Rail, Central West Orana REZ, Sydney Metro West, Zero Emission Buses and Western Sydney Airport.
