Uncover the story of the Menai suspension bridge, a landmark connecting Anglesey to mainland Wales that's just celebrated its 200th anniversary! First opened to the public on January 30th, 1826, this incredible feat of engineering was designed by Thomas Telford and was once the world's longest suspension bridge. I took these photos last summer during a leisurely dog walk - I just had to snap away!

Rise N Shine

Whilst exploring new perspectives of the city over the weekend, I couldn't help but notice this view of the bridge at sunrise from directly above the beautiful large tree at the beginning of the Petrie Bight boardwalk🌳

Unfortunately this is the one and only photo that was possible from that particular location: I was chased off by a territorial Currawong that was calling said tree home 👀

When I say chased, what that means is flicking the control to sport mode and flying straight up at a rate of 10 metres per second, which equates to 36 km/h⏫

The reason for this ballistic maneuver is that birds, whilst much more agile than a drone in normal horizontal or downwards flight are unable to fly directly upwards very quickly at all...

Once enough altitude is gained with regard to the tree the bird quite quickly loses interest and no longer perceives the drone as a potential threat 👌

The Story bridge still amazes me every time that I get the opportunity to see it up close. It's hard to imagine anything quite like it being built today, especially a bridge held together with 1.2 million rivets!

Every rivet holding the steel beams and supports in place had to be heated to almost 900°C, then thrown to a team who would insert it into a hole, hammer it into position which also rounded it off providing a secure joint

This beautiful river crossing may be 85 years old and beginning to show signs of that age, yet is still a stunning structure regardless of where you're viewing it from📷

Fingers crossed I'll be enjoying a night climb on this most beautiful icon before the year is done, which is an adventure that I am certainly looking forward to experiencing😀

Today's post title was a little play on words - the sun was just beginning to shine, and the drone certainly had to rise😉

Welcome to Monday everyone, have a great day
