Suspension footbridge in Germany. Efficient and slender structure to minimise the impact in such an stunning landscape. Steel cables working tension make it possible. Very interesting solution for controlled displacements achieved through lateral bracing and rock anchorage. Photo by @ssnnas taken in Germany by @ww_bridges

The beautifully slender arch of the Svinesund bridge between Sweden and Noway. The single arch spans through the center line of the bridge cladding and supporting the steel box girders of the deck. The cladding of the arch to the deck is the innovative solution to restrain the single arch from several buckling modes. Photo by @ninarosnesfoto taken in Svinesund Bridge by @ww_bridges

Ponte del mare in Pescara, Italy 🇮🇹. It's a cable stayed footbridge with a double deck structure with a central span of 172m. The inclined mast supports with steel cables the completely asymmetric and curved pair of decks (one pedestrian and the cycle path). The design is by the architect Walter Pichler and the engineer Mario de Miranda. Photo by @giovanniquiri taken in Ponte del mare, Pescara by @ww_bridges

Puente del tercer milenio (Third Millenium bridge) in Zaragoza, Spain. 216 m span arch bridge over the Ebro river. The white concrete arch supports the deck by anchoring the hangers to both sides. The arch gains lateral stability by splitting the end section into an A shape. Design by Juan José Arenas del Pablo. Photo by @jennyperlo taken in Puente del Tercer Milenio by @ww_bridges

Kładka Ojca Bernatka in Krakow, Poland 🇵🇱. It's a 145m single span arch footbridge over the Wiśle river. The single steel arch supports the double deck by connections to the transversal beams that join both decks. The designer is Autorska Pracownia Projektowo-Plastyczna prof. Andrzeja Gettera. The bridge of peace in Tbilisi, Georgia. Futuristic design footbridge that spans 150m across the Kura river. The steel shell structure with bow shape supports the deck both in the central span and in the cantilever end spans. The shell is also covered in glass and beautifully illuminated with LED technology. The bridge was designed by the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi.

Seafarer's Bridge in central Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺. It's a cable stayed footbridge that spans 75 meters across the Yarra River. The main span is supported by the cables that at the same time are supported by consecutive cables that are connected to a series of arches in fan display. The architects are Grimshaw Partners and the design is engineered by Brown Consulting. Photo by @annaejag taken in Seafarers Bridge by @ww_bridges

I come back to activity after a long pause due to lack of time to write quality posts with this Swedish bridge. Also to wish all of them a happy midsommar 🌺 day, the greatest of the Swedish traditions 😊 🎉☀️ photo by @garmen25 and details of the bridge in a previous post taken in Årstabroarna by @ww_bridges

The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge is a swing bridge in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The two piles rotate opening the deck in a swing motion and allowing for ship transit. When opened, the deck sections at both sides of the pylons compensate for each other's selfweigt and the structure works as a symmetric cantilever. When closed, however, the bridge acts as a suspension bridge and is capable of carrying higher loads. The traffic over the bridge is regulated in a single direction by two traffic lights at the entrances. Designed by Oberbaurat Ernst Trosche. Photo by @geniusstrand

Sundial bridge across Sacramento River in Redding, USA. The single span is supported by an asymmetric cable stayed system that is attached in harp shape to an inclined pylon. The pylon is not back-tied to the ground, instead, the 42° inclination adds self weight to counteract the loads in the deck. Asymmetry is also present in the transverse direction. The pylon is not in line with the deck, the cables are not attached to the axis of the pylon and the cables are neither attached to the centerline of the deck. The result is a highly inefficient structural behavior (torsion everywhere) but apparently the beautiful aesthetics compensate such fact. Fact: the pylon works as a sundial also. Designed by S. Calatrava. Photo by @i_shoot_everything.

Pedro e ines footbridge in Coimbra, Portugal. 5 span steel arch bridge with the deck in composite action. The handrails are decorated with laminated glass in four colors. The special feature of this structure is the zig zag that the deck does at mid span, the bridge that doesn't meet. Behind that, one of Portugal's greatest love stories. Projected by the engineer António Adão da Fonseca and the architect Cecil Balmond. Photo by @arthurmaiaphoto.
