You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.” — Shirley Chisholm Policy shapes our lives: where we live, what we earn, how we get around, whether our communities are safe. Last night I had the honor of moderating the 2026 Young Voters Candidate Forum at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, where young people went face-to-face with the folks asking for their vote and talked housing, jobs, public safety, transit, and the racial wealth gap. Sometimes a young person needs someone who sees their potential and gives them somewhere to start. Bob and WyKing did that for me, and I carry those lessons into every job and every opportunity. Trade programs need funding, visibility, and people willing to teach. Let’s give more young people the tools to earn a living, build confidence, and create a future they can be proud of. ⚡️ #preapprenticeship #skilledtrades #apprenticeship #construction #workforcedevelopment

REUNION ON UNION: There is something deeply sacred about the places that shaped us. For generations, the Central District has been the unshakeable heartbeat of Black culture, resilience, and community in Seattle. Today, we gather at the intersection of history and our future to celebrate a truth we carry in our bones: we are still here, and we are still building. ReUnion on Union 2026 is officially TODAY, and your presence is what makes this community whole. Capturing Our Joy & History over the years, Converge Media has had the profound honor of being on the ground, capturing some of our community’s most impactful, raw, and beautiful moments. Exactly three years ago, in 2023, our cameras were rolling on these very blocks. We documented the tight hugs of long-lost friends, the booming laughter cutting through the summer air, and the unshakeable spirit of a people returning home. What Awaits You at the Reunion on Union by Africatown Community Land Trust: This event transforms Union Street into a living family reunion. There is a place at the table specifically reserved for you: The Feast: Wally’s Soul Food, Chef Red, The Jerk Shack, Moe Vegan, Catfish Corner, and Polly’s Cakes & Bakes. Nostalgic Spaces: Walk into Grandma’s Living Room for vintage decor, or visit Paw Paw’s Garage for spades, dominoes, and chess. Little Roots Kids Zone: Free food for youth 12 & under, a Slime Lab, family games, and Hella Black Books. Culture & Legacy: Add your lineage to the community tree and record your neighborhood stories at the CD History Booth. Live Soundtrack: DJ Uncle Guy, Surround Sound Band, Josephine Howell, and headliner SURFACE! Event Details & RSVPCome fill your spirit, pour love back into the neighborhood, and experience the beautiful renaissance of the CD today. Time: TODAY, Sunday, July 19th | 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Where: 23rd Ave and E Union St, Seattle, WA RSVP: https://reuniononunion2026.eventbrite.com/
