POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At the start of this year’s wildfire season, food writer Meghna Jaradi (@thali.creative) set out to investigate a largely underreported phenomenon: As wildfires have grown in scale and intensity, wildfire *smoke* has wafted further and more often, negatively impacting all sorts of local food systems far from the direct site of a fire.

What’s being done about it, and how might it affect Washington’s food systems as global temperatures rise?

In her thoroughly investigated piece, Meghna shows how the wine industry — a relatively deep-pocketed, well-researched agricultural sector — offers early signs of where Washington’s food systems might head in response to more wildfire smoke.

Meghna spoke to local winemakers, restaurant workers, wine researchers, climate-change experts, and others. She foresees new farming, labeling, sourcing, and labor standards on the horizon; new tastes that people will acclimate to; and a growing need to change how we farm and harvest in the face of climate change.

In life, we attempt many things from a place of love. Even when those journeys don’t lead us to where we may have wanted to go, we ended up arriving at the places we needed to be at. You’re allowed to feel fondness for many memories of the past. Even if you know those memories lead to pain, that’s okay. Emotions and feelings are not easy to navigate. However, by you navigating the uncertainty of these feelings as you progress into the future, you will end up in great places you couldn’t have ever imagined.

Keep loving, remain kind, and grow from your experiences! 💙

“GROWING SEASONS,” a short story by Dayjha McMillan (@yourautisticangel), reflects on a relationship that’s reached its end — wrapped up in the narrator’s relationship to Seattle, to nature, and to time itself.

Structured around the excitement and bounty of blackberry season, and its sudden annual departure, our narrator ponders the fruits and consequences of growing up: “A fermenting process, a bitter tongue, and a piercing truth that we will bloom again.”

Accompanying Dayjha’s story are stark, textured charcoal drawings by Wynonna Susilo (@wynpokes), a Seattle-based artist and art therapist.

To Whom It May Concern by @wynpokes
24" x 48" linocut & ink on recycled cloth

A stunning piece to be included in TONIC: A Medicinal Flora & Fungi Exhibition, opening March 13th!

"This piece was inspired by the traces of nature I noticed during a typical, wet, Seattle walk—the delicate prints left behind by flowers and leaves, momentary impressions that felt both fragile and enduring. These observations shaped the imagery in this work, which features endangered flower species native to Washington State (Checker Mallow & Showy Stickseed). Using linocut and ink, I reimagine Batik, a cultural artform from my Indonesian heritage, through a contemporary lens to invite discussions around conservation, endangered flowers, and our shared responsibility to protect our Earth."

🎉Celebrating everything this year held!🫶

I shared my photography and mixed media work in galleries throughout Seattle, joined conversations on panels, completed an artist residency, put out a zine, taught classes, and stayed committed to making work!

I’m deeply thankful for the people who showed up, supported, and believed in what I’m building! 🎨If you’ve been hesitating to put your work out there, consider this a reminder you can do it!

Looking ahead to the new year with excitement, intention, and so much more gratitude ✨

2025… i couldn’t have predicted a year of creating that would feel so breathless, concentrated, and crystalline. this year, i felt the pieces of who i am and what i have to say begin to knit together. i straightened out my heart and fell in love. my body rebelled against me (several times), and i tried to listen to it better. my art is starting to feel less like a question and more like a conduit. the future is uncertain, and i don’t want to jinx anything, but i think i’m really on to something.

thank you for being here & seeing me, supporting me, and inspiring me. see you in the new year <3

firsts in 2025:
- picked up 1 new art practice (chinese calligraphy)
- finished my first oil painting (and sold it)
- showed work in my first art show
- completed my first year of art school
- tabled for the first time, sold prints of my art and chinese calligraphy commissions
- completed my first concept art gig

total recap:
- 7 group art shows
- 2 artist panel speaking opportunities
- 11 completed works (3 paintings, 5 mixed media, 3 digital illustrations)
- 1 big ass painting in progress
- 4 upcoming art shows (all next month. stay tuned)

Thank you to everyone who came out last Friday to help us close out two full months of If I Could Tell You I Would with such a heartfelt community circle. Deep gratitude to our facilitator Nathan Lawer-Yolar, our featured panelists, and our guest curator Taslim (Jay) Dosunmu for holding the space with so much care.

And if you’re around tomorrow and craving more communal spirit, join us for our annual Friendsgiving at The Fishbowl. Doors at 4pm — bring a dish, a friend, a reflection, and the gift of your presence.

Endlessly grateful for all the hands and hearts that make this community such a gift to behold and to belong to. 💛

✨ Artist Panel: If I Could Tell You, I Would… ✨ Friday Nov 21st • Doors 5pm | Circle 6:30–7:30pm

Everyone has experienced moments where communication breaks down or conflict occurs—moments like having to call out a parent for doing something hurtful, or distance growing between best friends, or even someone having to stand up for themselves against someone trying to take advantage of them.

All of these cases share something in common: wanting to be heard.
During this panel, artists talk about their experience with wanting to be heard—and listening to others. Come thru to join the conversation and help us find better ways to communicate with each other.

Moderated by @esthersyute, Co-Founder and President of @arrivedcollective and featuring exhibiting artists Ashley Miyagishima, Judy Lee, Ning Wan, Taslim Dosunmu, and Wynonna Susilo

All are welcome. Come as you are and enjoy good company 🙏

Everyone needs relief.

The moments of friction we experience day-to-day can wind us up, and without a safe way to release, it can lead to us lashing out at others or even cause physical health issues.

Art can give us release from unhealthy tension within us in ways that wouldn’t be possible without it.

If you’d like to learn how to use art as a healing practice, come join our upcoming Fishbowl workshop on Nov 13th @ 6pm
