In this ThinkPiece style exploration of Blank Placard Dance, Replay, Xander Cobb follows the work and interrogates the postmodern form as a significant tool for protest in the current political landscape. link in the bio for more Photo: Amelia Candeub Image Description: A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. In the center, an image: Dancers stand close together, forming a clump. They face in all directions, their bodies back to back, front to back, and back to side. Each one grips a wooden post holding high attached white posters. They wear bright yellows, purples, reds, blues, pinks, teals, and oranges. Some are visibly sweaty. Dancers facing the camera look serious and a bit fatigued. Glimpses of blue sky, clouds, a street, and city buildings fill the cracks between their blank signs. In the lower-left corner of the post, in dark teal and black, a lowercase t and uppercase D, the logo for Thinking Dance. Above the image are blue letters that read Is Halprin’s postmodernism as radical today as it was in 1967? and below the image are blue letters that read by Xander Cobb. #AnnaHalprin #PostModernism #Dance #Protest #PhiladelphiaFringeFestival2026 A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. Xander Cobb takes us on a journey through Friday Night Rat Catchers, by Lisa Fagan & Lena Engelstein. The work disgusts, impresses, and flings itself through a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants process, and the resulting review is an equally fun read! All Fringe coverage at the link in the bio. Photo: Maria Baranova Image Description: A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. In the center, an image: On a dark smoky stage littered with fruit loops and rocks, two dancers whip their hair forward from a wide second position plie (legs wide, turned out, and bent), their hands smacking their thighs. The dancers are dressed like it’s the 70s and they’re going to the club: one in an orange halter jumpsuit with sparkly fringe, the other wearing tall silver heeled boots, purple booty shorts, and a fluorescent green shirt with flared sleeves. In the lower-left corner of the post, in dark teal and black, a lowercase t and uppercase D, the logo for Thinking Dance. POSTPONED ~~🌀 AUGUST SHAKE 🌀 Need to move some energy around? Come shake with us. Join us Monday, August 17 from 6:30ish–8:00 pm at Headlong / Mascher Space Co-op (1170 S. Broad St.) for an evening of collective movement, release, and nervous system care. SHAKE is an hour-long movement practice where we gather in a room, put on an eclectic playlist, and move—shaking, bouncing, vibrating, swaying, rocking, rolling, resting, and seeing where the hour takes us. There’s no choreography to learn and no particular way you’re supposed to move. Stand, sit, lie down, take a break, make it tiny, make it huge. Follow your breath, your sensations, and whatever your body has for you that day. Sometimes SHAKE is sweaty. Sometimes meditative. Sometimes joyful, weird, emotional, or surprisingly quiet. DETAILS 🌀 6:30–6:45 pm → Arrive + settle in ✨ 6:45 pm → Welcome + introductions 💫 7:00–8:00 pm → SHAKE 💸 Suggested donation: $10–20 (Venmo or cash) ✨ NOTAFLOF — No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds 🤍 Free for BIPOC 📲 Register ahead via Venmo: @Xander_Cobb Wear something comfortable, bring water, and please stay home if you’re feeling sick.

SHAKE is a cathartic movement practice for every body. Together, we spend an hour shaking, bouncing, vibrating, swaying, rocking, rolling, and moving to an eclectic playlist. There isn't a right way to do it. You can stand, sit, lie down, rest, or move however your body wants to. The only invitation is to keep gently returning to movement for the hour, following your own breath and sensations. Sometimes it feels restful. Sometimes it's invigorating. Sometimes it's emotional. We do it together—but no one's watching. Come as you are. **A few reminders:** 💧 Wear comfortable clothes. 💦 Bring water. 🤍 Please stay home if you're feeling sick. We'd love to shake with you.

After a six-year hiatus, H-O-T is back @thefidget_space. Go to the link in our bio to read Xander Cobb´s take. Photo by David Chin Image description: A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. In the center, an image: In the foreground, a percussionist, Flandrew Fleisenberg, wearing a grey long sleeve and glasses leans over and rings a brass soundbowl that he’s placed on top of a big white YAMAHA drum. Metal kitchen pot lids are strewn on the faded wood floor around him. In the background, a person in teal pants and a navy longsleeve, Loren Groenendaal, crosses arms and holds hands with a person wearing green pants and an off white t-shirt, Michele Tantoco. They counterbalance, sending their hips back and holding each other's gaze. Beneath their blurring feat, black marley crinkles, behind and beside them, white curtains drape the backstage and the windows.
