We’re looking for 1-2 roommates to move in starting October 1st!

we are 3 people living in an 8 bedroom rowhome in west philly seeking 1-2 roommates. we’re clean, mostly sober, and in our mid to late twenties. everyone is good friends and hangs out often in common spaces, and we want to keep the social vibe going. current common spaces: living room/kitchen/dining room, shared art studio, shared guestroom/tv room, remote office/yoga studio, front yard with fire pit, garden, and hammock. plenty of space to spread out! rent is $575/month and we pay for wifi, heat, gas, and water, too. we are 2 blocks from the T2 trolley and have ample street parking. shared groceries are a must, and we like to share the labor of cleaning and maintaining a house as generously as we each can. our neighborhood is friendly, and our intersection can be a bit loud. our home has a lot of steep stairs. no cats please - we are going to foster a dog soon!

if you think you might be a fit, reach out via DM - we’d love to meet you! by @xander_cobb

I keep thinking about this podcast episode Love in a F*cked Up World with Mariame Kaba where Dean Spade asks her about hope as a discipline and she talks about releasing certainty.

Can improvisational art practices build our capacity for not knowing? Can dancing together be a training ground for facing uncertainty? Be a surrender to the unknown? Alchemize our not knowing into devotional collective action?

My Vermont people, I’m back in town and teaching a workshop two weeks from today!

It’s called Practices for the Unknown. It’s me synthesizing and sharing my learning and research since moving to Philly. Improvisation based movement practices for getting closer to and going with our intuitions, especially when we don’t know. Expect to shake, take (optional) risks, write, speak, rest, and listen to our breathing.

Tuesday 8/25 6-8pm @spiralhouse.collective 19 Church St, 2nd floor (no lift). Venmo or cash, Venmo Xander_Cobb to register ahead.

Pricing
Standard $36 ($18/hr)
Supported $20 ($10/hr)
Supporter $50 ($25/hr)

POSTPONED ~~🌀 AUGUST SHAKE 🌀

Need to move some energy around? Come shake with us.

Join us Monday, August 17 from 6:30ish–8:00 pm at Headlong / Mascher Space Co-op (1170 S. Broad St.) for an evening of collective movement, release, and nervous system care.

SHAKE is an hour-long movement practice where we gather in a room, put on an eclectic playlist, and move—shaking, bouncing, vibrating, swaying, rocking, rolling, resting, and seeing where the hour takes us.

There’s no choreography to learn and no particular way you’re supposed to move. Stand, sit, lie down, take a break, make it tiny, make it huge. Follow your breath, your sensations, and whatever your body has for you that day.

Sometimes SHAKE is sweaty. Sometimes meditative. Sometimes joyful, weird, emotional, or surprisingly quiet.

DETAILS
🌀 6:30–6:45 pm → Arrive + settle in
✨ 6:45 pm → Welcome + introductions
💫 7:00–8:00 pm → SHAKE

💸 Suggested donation: $10–20 (Venmo or cash)

What happens when you stop trying to find the right answer?

In Practices for the Unknown, artist @xander_cobb invites participants to embrace curiosity through movement, improvisation, meditation, writing, and play. This workshop is about exploring creativity, possibility, and the space where new ideas begin.

No dance background is required, just an openness to try something new.

What is SHAKE?

SHAKE is a cathartic movement practice for every body. Together, we spend an hour shaking, bouncing, vibrating, swaying, rocking, rolling, and moving to an eclectic playlist.

There isn't a right way to do it. You can stand, sit, lie down, rest, or move however your body wants to. The only invitation is to keep gently returning to movement for the hour, following your own breath and sensations.

Sometimes it feels restful. Sometimes it's invigorating. Sometimes it's emotional. We do it together—but no one's watching.

Come as you are.

**A few reminders:**
💧 Wear comfortable clothes.
💦 Bring water.
🤍 Please stay home if you're feeling sick.

We'd love to shake with you. taken in Headlong by @xander_cobb

Shaking is a cathartic movement practice for all bodies. We shake, vibrate, bounce, rock, roll, sway, agitate our bodies continually to an hour long eclectic playlist. It can be standing, seated, laying down and any other way you choose. The task is to do it for a full hour. The focus is your body, your breath. It can be restful. It can be hard invigorating. We do it together but no one’s watching.

Wear comfortable clothes, drink plenty of water, and stay home if you’re sick.

I’m leading a series with PDS called “what’s dancing anyways?” Each class is a sequence of practices: shaking, slow walking, non-stop moving/speaking/writing, open score. I’m bringing together practices and questions that have moved me from teachers like Jeanine Durning, Ryuta Iwashita, Juliana May, Anya Smolnikova and Jared Williams. I want to mess around with presence and attention, and train the confidence of our dancing minds. Read the full description and sign up on the @phillydanceshare website! Bring paper and pen. See you next Wednesday, and the Wednesday after that, and after that through Dec 17! 10-11:30am @mascher.space pay what you can, suggested $15-$20 taken in Mascher Space by @xander_cobb
