What if a loudspeaker worked more like a musical instrument? 🎻🔊

That question inspired this unique DIY speaker project. Instead of using a traditional cone, the sound is produced by two suspended birch plywood panels, each driven by an @xcite_audio XT32-4 exciter.

Inspired by violin craftsmanship, the panels were finished with multiple coats of shellac to introduce natural damping through the wood itself. Combined with a free-hanging design and carefully calculated exciter placement, the result is an incredibly spacious and natural presentation, especially for acoustic instruments, jazz, and vocals.

To complete the system, the panels are paired with dual sealed 12-inch subwoofers and crossed over at 180 Hz using DSP. According to the builder, the speakers “disappear” into the room, creating a wide, immersive soundstage with lightning-fast transients.

Components used in this build:

• 2× @xcite_audio XT32-4 Exciters
• 2× @sbacoustics SB34SWPL76-4 Subwoofers

A huge thanks to @mtteos__ for sharing this fascinating project with us! 🙌 We really enjoyed reading about the design process behind this build.

What do you think of this unique approach to speaker building?

Reflecting the rhythm. 🪞🎶

See that subtle shake in the room’s reflection? That’s the bass pulsing right through the new KODE SP-02 prototypes. Powered by powerful @xcite_audio exciters for bass, mid and highs.

This handcrafted DML mirror speaker makes sound waves both visible and tactile. The logic: a larger mirrored surface means an even richer bass and more volume.

What would a laser do on the KODE speakers? It makes the space shake! 🫨 just a very quick test after the many requests 😅 In the meantime, I am planning the first drop of a limited and numbered series of speakers in January. #kodespeaker #speakerdesign #soundimports #designlovers #lasershow
