What if a loudspeaker worked more like a musical instrument? 🎻🔊

That question inspired this unique DIY speaker project. Instead of using a traditional cone, the sound is produced by two suspended birch plywood panels, each driven by an @xcite_audio XT32-4 exciter.

Inspired by violin craftsmanship, the panels were finished with multiple coats of shellac to introduce natural damping through the wood itself. Combined with a free-hanging design and carefully calculated exciter placement, the result is an incredibly spacious and natural presentation, especially for acoustic instruments, jazz, and vocals.

To complete the system, the panels are paired with dual sealed 12-inch subwoofers and crossed over at 180 Hz using DSP. According to the builder, the speakers “disappear” into the room, creating a wide, immersive soundstage with lightning-fast transients.
