Happy National Coaches Day! 🥍

Today we’re spotlighting Badger Prime Coach Colin Willis.

Coach Willis brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Badger Prime. He played six years of college lacrosse as a goalie, spending four years at Cleveland State University and two years at Life University.

Now the Head Coach at Bryant & Stratton College, Colin has coached at multiple levels of the game. He spent four years with True Charlotte in North Carolina as Goalie Director, working with goalies throughout the program. He also served as an assistant defensive coordinator at Marietta High School before becoming the Head Coach at Butler High School.

As a player, Colin earned:
🥍 2x Runner-Up Defensive Player of the Year
🥍 2x NAIA Player of the Week
🥍 2x NAIA Defensive Player of the Week

His specialties are goalie and defense, but what we’re most excited to have him bring to Badger Prime goes beyond the position.

“The thing I’m most excited about is the chance to work with and develop the future generation of this sport and continue to grow the game in the state of Wisconsin.”

On National Coaches Day, we’re proud to have coaches like Colin investing their experience back into the next generation.

Wind Up -> Face Dodge = Move that works all the way up through Varsity. Get this in your bag ASAP!

We want the drill to do the teaching.

In this 3v2, the ball carrier starts the rep touching their defender, immediately creating contact. They have five seconds with the ball and Coach is available as an outlet.

That simple structure forces a decision. Attack through contact or become a passer and move the ball.

We do not need to stop the rep and explain which role they should play. The constraints create the problem, and the players learn to solve it through reps.

That is how we want to coach. Instead of constantly telling players what decisions to make, we modify the environment to encourage the behaviors we want to develop.

Less explanation. More learning through play.

Defense isn’t just about getting stops. It’s about communicating every second of every possession.

Even if the other team scores, we should have been talking the entire time. Calling picks, slides, cutters, and matchups keeps everyone connected. Communication is something you control every play, regardless of the outcome.

That’s the standard we’re building at Badger Prime.

Day 1 vs. the end of the season. 📈

Every player started here.

This contact drill is all about making quick decisions under pressure—keeping your feet moving, protecting your stick, and reacting instead of hesitating. It’s one of the simplest ways to measure growth because the game only gets faster.

We’ll be coming back to this same drill later this season to see just how far these athletes have come. 💪🥍

Goose. Scoop. Dodge.

Today we worked on turning a ground ball into offense by goosing the ball forward, scooping it on the run, loading up into a windup, and attacking with a face dodge.

The best players don’t stop when they get the ground ball. They use it to create the next advantage.

Excited to step in as the new owner of Badger Prime.

I have been part of the Wisconsin lacrosse community for a long time and this program means a lot to me. I am passionate about helping players actually transfer skills into real game situations.

We have an awesome plan for this summer and I cannot wait to get started.

Spots are limited, so now is the time to get signed up before we open things up more broadly.

Congrats to Lucas for winning our goalie war at the XFactor clinic today! He received an exclusive vintage DC Coyotes lacrosse shooter shirt for his victory. These U10s stepped up today and showed the U12s who’s boss.
