100 days. 15 minutes a day. One big experiment.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about why some athletes improve faster than others, and I keep coming back to the same idea:

Consistency matters, but intentional consistency matters more.

This series is about testing that idea, challenging what I think I know, learning from people who made it further than I did, and building a better way to help athletes improve along the way.

I’m starting with myself and starting with faceoffs.

The long term goal is much bigger: give more Wisconsin athletes access to meaningful, personalized development regardless of where they live, how many sports they play, or how often they can get to a private coach.

Let’s see where 100 days takes us.

Not D1 ESPN film or anything… just some club reps 😂 Thanks @ecdgreg for the clip
But it always cracks me up when people break down film like they were in the other players head, saying what they believe the other players are thinking. I can’t really do that confidently.
So here’s the real thoughts during one of my plays since those are the ones I know best, and what I’d change. Feel free to coach me up. by @xfactorhq

If your shot feels stuck, it’s probably because you’re skipping your engine.
Power doesn’t start in your hands. It starts in your hips.

Fire the belly button first, then bring the hands through.
That separation is where the extra 10–15 mph comes from.

Happy National Coaches Day! 🥍

Today we’re spotlighting Badger Prime Coach Colin Willis.

Coach Willis brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Badger Prime. He played six years of college lacrosse as a goalie, spending four years at Cleveland State University and two years at Life University.

Now the Head Coach at Bryant & Stratton College, Colin has coached at multiple levels of the game. He spent four years with True Charlotte in North Carolina as Goalie Director, working with goalies throughout the program. He also served as an assistant defensive coordinator at Marietta High School before becoming the Head Coach at Butler High School.

As a player, Colin earned:
🥍 2x Runner-Up Defensive Player of the Year
🥍 2x NAIA Player of the Week
🥍 2x NAIA Defensive Player of the Week

His specialties are goalie and defense, but what we’re most excited to have him bring to Badger Prime goes beyond the position.

“The thing I’m most excited about is the chance to work with and develop the future generation of this sport and continue to grow the game in the state of Wisconsin.”

On National Coaches Day, we’re proud to have coaches like Colin investing their experience back into the next generation. by @xfactorhq

We want the drill to do the teaching.

In this 3v2, the ball carrier starts the rep touching their defender, immediately creating contact. They have five seconds with the ball and Coach is available as an outlet.

That simple structure forces a decision. Attack through contact or become a passer and move the ball.

We do not need to stop the rep and explain which role they should play. The constraints create the problem, and the players learn to solve it through reps.

That is how we want to coach. Instead of constantly telling players what decisions to make, we modify the environment to encourage the behaviors we want to develop.

Less explanation. More learning through play. by @xfactorhq

Day 3 of building a system to evolve how lacrosse is learned in Wisconsin.

Knowing what a player needs to improve is not enough. We also need to understand what kind of learning needs to happen.

After digging into research around motor learning and skill acquisition, I started organizing development into three types: Learn, Game, and Maintain.

Learn something new.

Make it usable in the game.

Maintain it once you own it.

Then we layer in what the player actually wants to accomplish.

The Skill Tree gives us the map. Your development goals give us a direction. Your learning type changes how we get there.

The goal is to make every rep have a reason. by @xfactorhq

Welcome to Day 2 of building a system to evolve how lacrosse is learned in Wisconsin.

At the center of it is the Skill Tree.

If you have ever played a video game, you probably already understand the concept.

Every skill in lacrosse can be organized from fundamental to advanced. Every player can then be described by which skills they know, how well they can perform them, and what they should learn next.

In theory, if you mastered every skill on the tree, you would be the best lacrosse player in the world.

That gives us a common language for development.

A curriculum is a group of skills we want to teach.

A drill is an action designed to train specific skills.

A coach evaluation identifies where those skills currently are.

Feedback tells us what needs to change.

A workout is a collection of actions chosen to move those skills forward.

The Skill Tree is what connects all of it.

Instead of drills, practices, evaluations, and feedback existing as separate pieces, they can all feed the same evolving picture of a player.

Grade the player. Identify the gaps. Choose the right actions. Measure what changes. Repeat.

The goal is not just to build a better curriculum.

It is to build an engine for learning lacrosse. by @xfactorhq
