TUESDAY 10/20 Monday/Wednesday/Friday Club, pres. by TAPE & XFR Collective TICKETS AT whammyanalog.com Over its history, the NYC-based non-profit a/v preservation group XFR Collective (https://xfrcollective.org/) has undertaken many projects, but none as ambitious as Alan W. Moore’s collection of nearly 900 tapes centered on the Monday/Wednesday/Friday Video Club. Active from 1986-2000, the collection includes works associated with Collaborative Projects, Inc. and Potato Wolf, many of which aired on public access Cable Channel D and other local venues. Now, after eight years of dedicated effort, this extensive collection of video tapes has been cataloged, digitized, and shipped to The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research for safe keeping. ‍ XFR scoured the entire collection to find you the juiciest nuggets of experimental video. Come celebrate the completion of this massive project and watch some extremely rare and seriously underseen art videos from New York’s underground. ‍ ‍

#WalterSteding and my early 80s , semi-forgotten / quasi-jinx film “Not Quite Love” is getting some promising attention. It has been chosen by the @xfrcollective @contemporaryruins in their 4hr block to screen several times at the @hudsonfilmfestival this weekend as a pre show to the features and at their lively parties. XFR Collective is celebrating their decade massive project of digitally transferring hundreds of VHS and 3/4” tapes from 80’s downtown artists who were in the Monday/Wednesday/Friday (MWF) Video Club collection. @alanw.moore #mwfvideoclub commercial A narrative film is hard to play as a preshow while people are filing in with practical lights on and audio turned low. I’m a fan of ambience projections and I guess ‘Not Quite Love” did its thing. Was I hearing a few smiles and curious eyes? I can’t expect shadows or available light footage to hold any details specially when what I’m seeing went through several generations of video transfers. Originally shot on 16mm film , then transferred to 3/4” magnetic before a VHS tape was made for small screens in this collection. And now revived digitally for projections on a life size screen. Lastly…………… more promising news on “Not Quite Love” revival — MoMA had acquired the film back in 2018 after I did my analog projection show with Walter and then where the film stood in the museum’s long line for restoration downtown 70’s / 80s film. Also few setbacks too - the original reversal footage was lost and the only print was too warp to scan. This year a 2k transfer from an old reliable Beta SP transfer was done. I was impressed with this decent screenable product. Hope to have a proper screening once the original hand drawn choice subtitles are burned into it. More on this revival soon. Hudson Hall - opening night #hudsonfilmfestival Festival Looking forward to a panel I’m in this evening 7:00 pm at #BastilleHudson with fellow artists who also have videos in this chosen selection from “Monday, Wednesday, Friday “ archival tape collection transferred now by #xfrcollective #ChristyRupp, “City Wildlife” - #HollyHardman, “Pray Tell Damozel” - CaraBrownell, “Cave Girls”. - moderated by XFR Coll
