TAPE is honored to present this screening in partnership with our heros at XFR Collective @xfrcollective
Over its history, the NYC-based non-profit a/v preservation group XFR Collective (https://xfrcollective.org/) has undertaken many projects, but none as ambitious as Alan W. Moore’s collection of nearly 900 tapes centered on the Monday/Wednesday/Friday Video Club. Active from 1986-2000, the collection includes works associated with Collaborative Projects, Inc. and Potato Wolf, many of which aired on public access Cable Channel D and other local venues. Now, after eight years of dedicated effort, this extensive collection of video tapes has been cataloged, digitized, and shipped to The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research for safe keeping.
‍
XFR scoured the entire collection to find you the juiciest nuggets of experimental video. Come celebrate the completion of this massive project and watch some extremely rare and seriously underseen art videos from New York’s underground.

We’ll be hanging out from 11 to 4 screening YOUR tapes! 👻

We can play VHS, Hi8 and MiniDV 📼

Got something more… sinister? 😈

Bring it along and we’ll attempt to unravel its mysteries [we will not actually unravel your tapes]

Don’t have tapes of your own? Well hop aboard our broomstick 🧙🏻‍♀️ and we’ll take you on a journey into the darkness…

There will be coffee. ☕️

In celebration of National Immigrant Heritage Month, join us for "Memories in Motion" — a free all-ages community event illuminating the stories that travel with us.

Through home movie screenings, a digital archiving workshop, one-on-one consultations, and brunch with neighbors, you'll learn practical ways to care for VHS, MiniDV, and Hi8 recordings while reflecting on the people, places, and moments that shape our sense of home.

📼 Have old tapes tucked away? Bring them with you! While we won't be digitizing tapes on-site, we'll assess their condition, answer your questions, share trusted digitization resources, and provide take-home worksheets and preservation guides to help you take the next step.

📍 Commonpoint Forest Hills
🗓 Sunday, June 28 | 11am to 4pm
