Personalizing How We Age
ㅤ
Aging varies enormously between and within individuals, which is why Jamie Justice argues that patient selection may be critical to the future of longevity therapeutics. In conversation with Steven R Cummings, she explores moving beyond the idea of one drug for everyone toward clearer aging risk categories and personalized strategies tailored to the individual.

“We need to make sure that we are preparing our children to use the AI that’s available to them in a way that facilitates their learning and does not diminish it.”

Rwanda’s Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, captures the crux of what the Global AI for Learning Alliance (GAILA) is working toward: AI that strengthens learning for every child, supported by shared standards, evidence, and tools that governments, AI firms, funders, experts and implementers build together.

At the launch of the Global AI for Learning Collective Action Agenda in New York on September 22, alongside #UNGA81, speakers shared why that work moves faster through public goods and further as a coalition. Highlights in the video below.

Dalberg serves as GAILA’s Secretariat, supporting collective action to help ensure AI advances learning outcomes for children everywhere.

XPRIZE Global Visioneering Summit 2026, Malibu, CA. As composed by the gods for inspiration and impact.

Thursday 8:30am. Sam and I arrive on site. The setting is heavenly canyon ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains.

9:00am. The event pavilion is packed with hope, intellectual captains of industry - financial ones too. I am holding back tears. Blackbelts in health, food, waste, water, climate and nature surround us. XPRIZE has:

1. Turned $519 million of donation driven XPRIZES into $31 billion in global impact, across 30 competitions.

2. Mobilized 35,000+ innovators from 173 countries, solving humanity’s biggest challenges through global competition rather than the exclusive domain of governments and corporations.

3. Helped launch entirely new industries from commercial spaceflight to carbon-removal at scale - which they use to make the beer served on site at the event.

1:30pm. @johnclarkemills , creator of Watch Duty delivers a keynote about devastation from wildfires. Then a panel from winners of XPRIZE Wildfire about the tech to bring wildfire response time under 10 minutes. Still pre-commercial, all 3 now face regulatory hurdles to achieve distribution for impact.

4:00pm. The sound of distant sirens is now close and constant. Sam’s fascination with Watch Duty since John talked about it. Sam sees the Bryson fire is gaining. A game time decision to leave early back to our hotel.

Within the hour road closures, evacuation orders, 70,000 without power and our hotel floods with evacuees.

Among many, here are two morals to this story:

1. We need hopeful, smart, motivated people and people with means and talent to work together. In more ways than one, the world is burning. And we need to streamline regulatory fast.

2. By 10:00am the next morning, we had reassembled at a makeshift venue to evaluate and select the next 3 XPRIZEs to be funded for the next 4 years. “Not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

Do hard things.

Snapshot of my experience of contributing to the design of the next Moonshot Prizes by @xprize🚀

Thrilled to have been one of the 80 leaders from across the UK to be invited by @xprize and @cambridge_consultants to contribute to the design of the next wave of global Moonshot prizes by @xprize🗺️ It was an incredible experience to learn from academic and industry leaders from across the world from the domains of Space, Deep Tech, Energy, Climate & Nature, Health and Food, Water & Waste🌍 I was a part of the Climate and Nature sub-group and we debated and co-created with each other, and contributed several important ideas and inputs on a range of topics, from extreme weather and the future of evolution, to biomimicry and shifting human-animal power dynamics (my personal favourite topic and I led the sub-team for this theme)🐘 As a researcher, educator and practitioner of Open Social Innovation, it was truly illuminating for me to learn how XPRIZE designs big, bold and ambitious prizes to find and fund cutting edge technological solutions to the world’s most pressing problems💡As a passionate nature advocate, it was refreshing to be in a room with people who had very different backgrounds but yet were very aligned in the pursuit of a future where humans learn from, contribute to, and truly respect Mother Nature🌳 It was also great to have a chance to bring my own unique perspective as a young Pracademic woman of colour representing the Social Sciences, adding a different lens to such discussions in a room full of STEM experts and leaders:) Interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaboration is a critical ingredient for systemic change🤝

Thank you to XPrize and Cambridge Consultants for inviting me to be a part of this important dialogue🙌🏽 I left the event very energised and hopeful about the future of Social Innovation:) Looking forward to applying the event learnings to our venture support programmes and ecosystem building work at @lsegenerate 🚀

LIVE: Malibu is on fire tonight 🔥

The Bryson Fire started this afternoon off Encinal Canyon. It’s already past 100 acres, with no containment yet, and the Santa Ana winds are pushing it toward the coast. Families near Kanan Dume have been told to leave. Many more are packing bags and waiting.

If you’re nearby, follow live updates on @watchdutyapp. Charge your batteries tonight. The winds get stronger tomorrow morning.

These hills have burned so many times in my lifetime. Every time, the ash ends up in the ocean too. What happens on land never stays on land.

Thinking of everyone out there tonight, and sending so much gratitude to the crews on the frontline 🌊

We are Go Flight 🚀 Backstage with two astronauts, before our talks on the Future of Space at the XPRIZE Visioneering event today.... with what looks like a meteor shower overhead...

Rusty Schweickart was the first Lunar Module Pilot, and during his Apollo 9 spacewalk, he had an unexpected five minute waiting period without checklists or activities to distract him. He said it changed his life. He saw the Earth streaming by at 17,500 MPH, with no boundaries between countries. “We are all Earthlings.”

He saw the precious lifeboat of Earth with its thin blue line of atmosphere and like Neil Armstrong, realized how precious and vulnerable Earth would be to the celestial onslaught of large meteorite strikes.

He went on to found the Association of Space Explorers to collaborate with the Soviets on space policy and planetary defense. He also co-founded B612, dedicated to early detection of future asteroid threats affording enough time for deflection.

We are at a remarkable time in human history where we can compute the orbital trajectories of all Near Earth Objects looking out 50 years and make small adjustments to the solar system to protect life on Earth.

Survival is computational. Intelligence allows us to see the future.

There is something poetic about the computational defense of humanity. And something that rhymes with history. The Space Race of the 60s was won computationally, not by brute force heavy-lift, which would have favored the Soviets.

With Anousheh Ansari and Rusty in Malibu.

A whale looked me in the eye and asked for help. 🐋

We’ve mapped just 28% of our seafloor. The biggest blue bank on Earth is still the least understood and least valued. Time to listen to Indigenous stewards, step out of the echo chamber, and protect what’s ours 🌊
