🎧ALPHABET BAND CHALLENGE🎧
TODAY'S LETTER - X - X
I don't think anyone who grew up in Southern California during the 80s, that was into the punk scene. Didn't know X. It would be hard pressed not to have not heard of them. X was one of those bands, while not a huge mainstream success, they influenced so many punk, rockabilly, alt-rock, folk rock, Americana, and more. I had a friend recommend them to me back in the day when I first got into punk my freshman year of high school. They were raw, energetic and genuine. In 2024 they put out their album Smoke & Fiction and did a massive farewell tour. They will always ring true in my heart, as one of the pillars of American Punk in the 80s.

Here’s three more iconic 12” sleeves from the 1980s from three very different artists.

The first one is the finest new wave moment from a UK blue-eyed soul singer. Didn’t he also play Live Aid? There are two different sleeve variations for the UK 12”. I think it comes down to which hairstyle you like.

The second sleeve is from a revered LA rock band that actually released a new album and toured within the last year. The two vocal leads have very memorable names, and it’s their interplay that give the band its signature sound (no, it’s not Pixies).

The third single is one of those new wave UK groups that decided to adopt a clothing scheme to go along with their sound. They only released one album and three singles. Does anyone know their story? Asking for a friend.

Which sleeve do you like best?

FMC Behind the Scenes: Another studio stop, this time with X band manager Mike Rouse! 🎸

Fullerton Museum Center Executive Director Elvia Susana Rubalcava and Museum Curator Georgette Collard joined California Locos founder Dave Tourje for a trip through decades of X history through posters and photos.

We’re all excited for the Locos X exhibit and, of course, opening night happening Saturday, May 22!

Don’t sleep on tickets. Thanks, Mike, for the trip down memory lane! 🤘

I saw a few people doing “the 9 albums that made me” thing that’s going around so I gave it a try. These are in no particular order, I just liked the way they looked in this arrangement. It’s challenging to narrow it down to 9. Number 10 would have been Leave Home by The Ramones. Things like this can start interesting conversations. If you want to try it I’ll post the link in the comments. #my9albums
