To compete or not to compete. I decided not to, since I knew there was no chance for finals anyway and I was too scared of showing up at that moment. So I decided to make sure I make something out of it I feel more comfortable with: documenting the ones competing. While it felt a bit like hiding behind the camera, it also felt relieving to allow myself not to feel ready. Although I agree with @slops__ , with whom I shared a nice chat about it afterwards, that you never „feel like it“. The more you expose yourself to performances, the more you get used to it. So no chickening out next time.

So I took another challenge: making this post. I usually don’t shoot in burst mode, since it feels like cheating. I’d rather catch the perfect moment like with a film camera than spray and pray. But the movements were so quick that I gave it a shot. While scrolling through the pictures, I discovered that the pray worked and beautiful stop-motion animations had been created. So I tried to make a mixture of the spotlight exposure the people encountered and their actual movement within it.

The goal was to eliminate as much noise from the spectators and surroundings as possible and show the brutal exposure performers experience while they are on stage.
