Dancing to intense saxophone 🎷

This was the 3rd round of Jazz Roots / Charleston Open final @savoycup_official

In swing dance, I once heard that the dancer is in charge of the rhythm section.

And, as far as I, newbie, sees it, contests are a game of rhythm, syncopation, phrasing, groove, expression, and execution (+knowledge).

But in this round, I chose to follow the saxophone at last because his energy was so intense, and I wanted to put all my focus there.

That might go against the rules of this community. But it’s what I love most about dancing to live music.

Thank you to the musicians @hotswingsextet for this incredible jazz. And thank you to the organizers and judges for the opportunity. 🙏

Only Kiai 🥊🧯 @justedebout_rotterdam

Thank you @jomandolaro for bringing me until here.
I’m grateful of the experience and the exchange.

As everyone expected, I lost. But I think we did our best!
Facing in front of them, My respect has increased even more. Thank you so much @kidlockofc @joshuamarkiet 🙏🙏

Top 4 out of 11.
I understand that I can’t expect to do as well in Japan, where much more participants join JD than here. But I’m proud of what we made.

Top 8 battle was also something special to me. I know @robba_locka has been working on locking harder than anyone else. The scene is shrinking. But there are still so many incredible lockers like them. Thank you @robba_locka @indyvanwanroij

@bamp.ttle
It was such a warm, peaceful, and fun event.

So much respect to @popping_danys and @ohmyfunkygroove
And thank you judges @robba_locka @tawathacamilla @ankeclinck and the MC @puyakashan

I typically don’t like the battle guest system because, as a participant, I lose a spot to pass prelims.

But this time, I was a battle guest.

There was some conflict within myself. I feel I don’t deserve to take that spot, but I also want to appreciate this opportunity.

So, to convince myself, I did what I could from preparation until the battle.

My dance has a lot of room to improve.
But this event and process to the event were a great time🙌

#holyfunk locking top8

First of all, big respect to the organizers. @holyfunk.official @kozen.pro
This was honestly one of the best organized events. The schedule was clear, everything stayed on time, and even with multiple categories happening together, everything ran smoothly. That smoothness made all the good moments even better.

And my locking community in the Netherlands @project.l.o.c.k
Project Lock really pushed me to be better. What I appreciate most is that everyone is individually working, improving, and growing. Seeing that gives me strong motivation. I’m also grateful to have people supporting me from behind during the battle. That support gives me both support and pressure in the best way. They’re all amazing dancers. In another event, they could be the ones standing here instead. This time, I got the chance, so, I didn’t want to lose myself or let down the members I respect. I lost, but I think I did my thing.

I love Locking. One thing I learned through Project Lock is that it’s not just about copying what the OGs did, but understanding how they felt, thought, and danced. I’m still processing those tools into my own way.

Happy to be part of Locking that still has so much room to explore.
