Malta Pt. I

I left for Malta the next morning after arriving in London. That night in London, I acquired another film camera, an Olympus AF10 Super. Mainly because I wanted to be able to carry a small camera in my pocket sometimes, and be able to have the option to shoot two different films at the same time. I picked this up in perfect condition, with the original box and receipt, but untested for £40. Also, it came with two expired rolls of film.

Thinking about the Maltese landscape and warm lights, I put in a roll of CineStill 400D, which is becoming my favourite colour film. There is a bit of a learning curve with a point-and-shoot camera. The fixed shutter speed and aperture really needed the lighting to be just right for a perfect exposure. In the strong light, 400 ISO made a lot of overexposed photos, but most of them were recoverable post-scanning.

So, here are some photos.

England has shown great promise in winemaking over recent years, it is wine like this that gives me great confidence. The 2022 Gusbourne Pinot Noir was awarded the English Red Trophy at IWC 2024, and they sure deserved it. Very youthful, light, delicate 🪽 with ripe berries 🫐🍓and morello cherries 🍒 combined with the softness gives it an earthy tone that shows great complexity as well as persistency. I think this is a soon to be cult classic. #gusborne #englishwine

Tonight we enjoyed this ‘grower’ English sparkling wine. It was the 2020 vintage, which given that it was during in Covid was an interesting year for wine. There was limited pollution due to people limiting travel, through both airplanes and cars, giving the wines a taste of minerals.

Beautiful sunshine deserves a beautiful drink ☀️ this is my first grappa, and i chose to have the nonino moscato. so much fragrance flowing out, dates figs raisins, so much on the palate, pungent but soft, i became a grappa fan from the first sip. Cheers everyone!

I have been coming to the Whymperstübe for many years, we had another lovely meal, between 3 friends. We had a fillet steak fondue with some Swiss Shiraz. The Fondue was a hearty meal and a treat after a hard day of skiing, the wine was also a fitting accompaniment.
