POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The central theme of the @kaboomfestival this year is “Human Touch.” I had the honour of curating a very special programme filled with textile-based animations. It’s called “Fibres of Feeling.”

I curated this programme to be filled with people whose work I greatly admire. Artists who explore what animation shaped by human hands and imagination can look like. A love letter to the handmade.

With the rise of AI, we artists question what makes humans unique: our mistakes, our attention, our care.
As animators, we already spend (sometimes painstakingly) so much time on our craft.
These filmmakers remind us how important it is to enjoy the process.

I would love for you to check out their work!

The screenings take place on:

Friday 13 March 2026
17:45 — Slachtstraat Filmtheater 2

Sunday 15 March 2026
17:30 — Slachtstraat Filmtheater 2
(handcraft-friendly screening, feel free to bring something to work on!)

Sunday 22 March 2026
13:15 — Eye Filmmuseum, Cinema 1

#twtr26 - 🤩 Introducing our anniversary program UNRAVEL

🎬 25 years of Tricky Women Tricky Realities also means 3,450 films shown - resulting in a selection that can hardly be captured in a single program.

✨ For the anniversary, three curated programs were created, bringing together highlights, festival favorites, and pioneering films

🧶🎬 UNRAVEL reveals and transforms patriarchal entanglements and power relations through animation. Using wool, threads and fabric, women workers reclaim a textile factory, grandma knits a sheep from an unraveled wolf, and mother-daughter memories are stitched by hand.

💞 Festival favorites interweave resistance and transformation to create anarchic friendships, sexual independence, and sisterly bonds.

Haptic as a mother-daughter language
Artist Yanqi Liang created a video essay to show the practical research journey of finding the language to communicate between mother and daughter, in which the sense of touch becomes the key.

Find out more in the 8th issue @tangible_territory

Thanks everyone who joined us on 8th July at @maydayrooms for the final event of the NOT JUST curatorial project, When My Mother Laughs curated by Emma Wang @emidocare, in collaboration with @feministduration and @sine_screen

A beautiful evening unfolded through the reading of My Mother Laughs by Chantal Akerman, accompanied by short documentaries by four directors @ahuaydin_ @yanqi_liang @partial.fanfan @fransiscangela

Together, we reflected on the intimate and fraught bonds passed between women across generations, where silence, care, resentment, and tenderness often exist side by side.

Through text, reading, and the documentary lens, personal memory emerged as a living archive – one that resists forgetting, and gestures toward forms of connection that evade easy articulation.

Introducing @yanqi_liang whose incredible hand-embroidered film you will see at the next Daydream Nation on the 17th of March at @therumshack

Here’s info from Yanqui:

Yanqi Liang
Based in London, always curious to explore my sensory experience of the world.

- info about your work (title, duration, year)
佛手Bergamot
6 minutes 37 seconds
2023

- a sentence about your work (description of what your film/piece is about)

‘Bergamot’, also translated as ‘Buddha’s hand’, explores the binary mother-daughter relationship as it shifts as it grows. Buddha’s hand and hand are similar but different, opposites but compatible, referring to the mother-daughter relationship, resembling but refusing to resemble, contradicting but adhering to each other, separating but connecting.

come see this beautiful film among by other unique films from women/non-binary filmmakers. ✨
