Haptic as a mother-daughter language
Artist Yanqi Liang created a video essay to show the practical research journey of finding the language to communicate between mother and daughter, in which the sense of touch becomes the key.

[아트페어] 2020-2021년 같이 @swatchartpeacehotel 에서 레지던시를 했던 동료들 @fangxiang_conan @yunfeng_cong @yanqi_liang 과 같이 상하이 웨스트번드 MGM 호텔이 처음으로 주관하는 호텔 아트페어에 참여하고 왔습니다! 3일간 정말 많은 분들이 오셨고 많은 교류를 할 수 있는 즐거운 시간이었습니다!^^

본 행사를 기획해주신 큐레이터 최우석님. 그리고 멋진 공간을 준비해주신 상하이 웨스트번드 MGM호텔 @mgmshanghaiwestbund 에 깊은 감사의 마음을 전해드립니다!^^

‘Bergamot’, also translated as ‘Buddha’s hand’, explores the binary mother-daughter relationship as it shifts as it grows. Buddha’s hand and hand are similar but different, opposites but compatible, referring to the mother-daughter relationship, resembling but refusing to resemble, contradicting but adhering to each other, separating but connecting.

✨The making process of Bergamot✨
🪢Drawing- printing-sewing-filming- editing🪢

It has been a year and a half since the film was shown, and the memory of making this film starts to feel a bit like a dream now. Because of this film, I’m getting closer to my mum and my mum’s female friends, I get to make lots of new friends who share similar feelings with me, and also it lets me know my own research interests. I felt really grateful for receiving lots of help and positive energy from this project, hope you enjoyed this behind the scenes too!💛

Behind Scenes-Making of Bergamot

I just found out that I didn’t share any production process of Bergamot here. What I found most fascinating during those 3 years was the making process with my female family members and friends. The sense of community naturally formed, I felt strongly supported and loved by them, which also shaped my decision to filmmaking.
