Thank you @kcranews and @cec_ontv for sharing Cylia’s story.

What’s happening isn’t fair, not just to my daughter, but to the hundreds of students whose futures were turned upside down. My heart breaks for every family navigating this.

As a Black mother, I’m exhausted by the constant fight for opportunities our children have already earned through years of hard work. We tell them to do everything right, and they do. They sacrifice, achieve, and dream big, only to have the finish line moved. With the recent death of Cylia’s grandma and aunt (my mom and sister) within 7 months and a huge move from LA, it’s been a lot!

I expected more from an HBCU, an institution founded on understanding the very struggles so many of these families face.

We’re not giving up. We’re speaking up, not only for Cylia, but for every student who deserves better. #howarduniversity

We’re proud to announce that Yasmin Cader will serve as the ACLU’s new Deputy Executive Director for Program, Strategy, and Culture.

Yasmin most recently served as Deputy Legal Director, where she led our work on racial justice and criminal legal reform. In this new role, she will help guide the ACLU’s work to protect and advance civil rights and civil liberties at this critical moment.

Yasmin is perfectly equipped for the fight ahead, as our Executive Director Anthony Romero notes: "Yasmin is a creative visionary who will keep the ACLU laser focused on its work to safeguard civil rights and civil liberties. I am thrilled to welcome her into this new role.” A photo of Yasmin Cader standing in a navy pantsuit with a red top. A brown textbox with yellow text reads: “Our new Deputy Executive Director Yasmin Cader, through the years.”
