Another great Holding Court featuring @senwhitehouse and a highly distinguished panel of Supreme Court experts, advocates and litigators.

I was thrilled to moderate our annual Supreme Court term preview event featuring @janainelson of the Legal Defense Fund, @yasmin_cader of the ACLU, @steve_vladeck of Georgetown Law, and @juanproano of LULAC.

We explored the legal questions and real-world consequences of cases before the Court, from proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration to back pay for migrant farmworkers. The conversation underscored how Supreme Court decisions reach far beyond the courtroom, affecting the rights, opportunities, and everyday lives of people and communities across the country.

I was on a world tour this past week 🌎

I joined @allianceforjustice for a conversation about the upcoming Supreme Court term, an @acluofga fireside chat with Executive Director Michelle Burrell, @texas_tribune festival for a panel about the war on DEI, an evening of dissent with @aclumn, and finally, attended a beautiful gala to accept an award on behalf of the ACLU from @committee100.

Feeling so grateful to have been part of every single one of these events ❤️ by @yasmin_cader

HU…YOU KNOW. 💙

There is something special about coming home.

Howard University challenged me, stretched me, and gave me a foundation that has shaped every chapter of my life since my undergraduate years there. So returning to campus today to welcome Howard Law’s newest class was an honor I’ll carry with me for a long time.

I was grateful to share the afternoon with Dean Roger Fairfax and delighted to see the incomparable Professor Sherrilyn Ifill, whose remarks earlier in the day set an inspiring tone for Howard Law’s newest class. Dean Fairfax is shaping one of our nation’s most important law schools and preparing the next generation of leaders. Professor Ifill’s extraordinary leadership and advocacy have transformed our nation’s conversation about race, democracy, and civil rights. Together, they have strengthened our institutions, shaped the law, and changed countless lives.

We talked about courage. About taking risks. About Pauli Murray. And about one truth history keeps teaching us: young people have never waited for permission to change the world. Again and again, they have been the ones who imagined a different future and then fought to build it.

Looking out at the Class of 2029 today, I couldn’t help but wonder and feel so very optimistic about the change that will be made by the people in that room today.

Thank you, Howard Law, for welcoming this Howard alum home. taken in Howard University School of Law by @yasmin_cader

Last night, a few of the wonderful women of Lafayette Square gathered to celebrate with me, and I was reminded how lucky I am to live in a neighborhood filled with such kindness, generosity, and joy.

Friendships are built over years—through ordinary moments, shared meals, walks around the neighborhood, and showing up for one another. Then one day you look around a room and realize those ordinary moments have become something extraordinary.

Thank you for a night I’ll always remember. ❤️#lafayettesquare #theLblock by @yasmin_cader

This past week brought together two institutions that each hold a piece of my heart.

The ACLU’s National Advocacy Institute hosted Howard University’s men’s basketball team for a thoughtful conversation, and just a few days later I had the privilege of sharing the stage with members of our senior leadership team at the ACLU’s Biennial Leadership Conference.

Howard taught me to lead with purpose. The ACLU has given me the opportunity to put those values into practice every day.

Feeling deeply grateful for the people, the purpose, and the communities that continue to shape me. by @yasmin_cader

Sixteen. ❤️

I am so proud of all that you have accomplished, but I am even prouder of the young man you are becoming.

You are clever and kind, thoughtful and brilliant. You are funny—really funny—and you make everyone around you laugh. You are fiercely loyal to your friends. And beneath all of that is such a tender heart—for your grandma, for Cocoa, and especially for anyone who needs a little extra care.

Watching you become more fully yourself is one of the greatest joys of my life.

Happy 16th birthday, my beautiful boy. I love you more than you will ever know. ❤️ by @yasmin_cader

This sista right here…. I’m so grateful to Ms. Ava, for all you have done for me, for our people, and for our country. For the stories she tells, the truths she brings into the light, and the hearts she moves along the way.

Grateful for her brilliance, her courage, her friendship—and for the way she uses every bit of her extraordinary gift. by @yasmin_cader
